 Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional Director of Engineering to join the extended leadership team and align business and technology strategy to drive the success of this disruptive startup in the oil exploration space.

What You’ll Do

 Technical Strategy:

  • Contribute to the technical vision and build the technical product roadmap from launch to scale, including long-term goals and strategy
  • Define technical requirements and systems architecture with clarity on feasibility, time, cost, and impact
  • Define best practices around coding methodologies, software development, and quality assurance
  • Identify opportunities and challenges in the marketplace, with constant evaluation of technological advancements to mitigate obstacles and drive success
  • Provide expert technical guidance to all functional areas, including strategy, operations, sales, and product
  • Ensure IT teams, Business Teams including Scientists, DevOps, QA, Engineering are aware of the risks in terms of Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, Legal & Regulatory, and help them make risk-aware decisions.

 Execution:

  • Drive continuous product improvement
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms to drive growth, profitability, and company value
  • Effectively align resources to achieve key business priorities, including appropriate scope, high-quality and timely product releases
  • Build and scale an efficient and agile end-to-end application infrastructure, with best practices in software delivery
  • Define and implement a consistent and repeatable process for quality assurance across all areas of organization and product build
  • Partner with ParentCo open data standardization efforts and maintain close communication to ensure API and Data lake compatibility for Venture data requirements
  • Collaborate with InfoSec Manager to perform end to end Security Assessment on vendor offerings – New/Leveraging existing (SAAS / PAAS/IAAS) services including integration requirement with ParentCo environment
  • Collaborate with InfoSec Manager to conduct VAPT (Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Test), Review VA-PT results, and recommend the risks to be remediated.
  • Work with DevOps Team, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Architecture and Support Team to ensure Information risk management standards are being followed at Studio X
  • Ensure all the risks are documented, classified, and addressed with the appropriate actions
  • Active participation in driving education and awareness of Information security related issues and risks to Business/Business IT Teams
  • Support in the development of tooling to support Cyber/Information security processes and ensuring this is fit for purpose.
  • Actively participate in reviewing and improving the Information Security Controls implemented in the organization.
  • Active participation in the Assurance and Architecture level discussions in the engagements.
  • Actively participate in Studio X team and community meetings, representing Cybersecurity and Business interests in applying setting standards and policies for the Group and the businesses, leading to a fit for purpose, evergreen Cybersecurity framework. 
  • Support during Internal /External Audits 
  • Ensure that Cybersecurity continues to focus on risks significant to the Business, with emphasis on innovation.

 People Management:

  • Build and retain a world-class engineering team
  • Establish a high performing, one-team engineering culture emphasizing innovation, growth, and development
  • Evangelize technical vision and strategy internally and externally
  • Ability to promote high-performance teams, working with inclusiveness and cultural diversity, across organizational boundaries.

 What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years architecting and building products from pre-launch through maturity, with 5+ in the context of a high-growth tech company using agile methods
  • Experience scaling products, overseeing their build from MVP to mass scale
  • Proven ability to lead, build and scale engineering teams
  • Extensive experience in Cloud-native application development and AWS Managed services and ML Ops workflow platforms
  • Hands-on skills in Node.js, Serverless, Lambda, python/django/flask, and container-based cloud-native platforms  
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps and cloud infrastructure services specifically AWS, Azure, and GCP

 Working knowledge of: 

  • Cloud-native applications with serverless framework, Node.js, API Gateway, and REST API services. 
  • Experience with AWS ML Sagemaker, Anaconda, Jupyter Labs, other AI/ML ops platforms. Kubeflow would be a plus.
  • Designing and developing service-based architectures (microservices architecture a plus) & integration with 3rd party data and API ecosystems.
  • Exposure to DaaS Services like AWS Appstream, AWS Workspaces, and GPU based computing
  • Exposure to ML Frameworks like Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch, etc
  • Experience with Designing data persistence, ingestion, and caching concepts using both SQL and NoSQL DBMS (e.g.: PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • CI/CD automation and Cloud-native ML pipeline experience
    • E.g., setup, configure and maintain your own build dockerized containers for ML workflows
    • Experience with Gitlab, MLFlow, etc.
  • Good understanding of, and experience with Information Security, Security Architecture, Risk Management, IT Security Operations, and Compliance and Security Controls and Audit, Intellectual Property Protection
  • Advanced understanding of internal and external IT security standards, PCI, SOC2/1, ISO27001 standards, and relevant legal compliance aspects
  • Robust understanding of, and solid experiences with the impact of Security on application development and operations as well as the IT Infrastructure
  • Ability to interface with different groups (Third parties, Business and IT) internal and external to IT (security) and to network globally across Group businesses, as well as with external groups
  • Technical knowledge & relevant experience in security domains /technologies related to:
    • Infrastructure/Network security
    • Identity and Access Management 
    • Business Impact Assessment
    • Application security
    • Data Leakage Prevention
    • End-Point Protection
    • Web filtering technologies, Proxies, and firewalls
    • Vulnerability Assessment / Penetration Testing
    • Cloud security
    • Third-party control assurance
  • Knowledge of Data Security Standards: PCI DSS, Privacy Principles
  • Driving Platform / Application security and compliance
  • Ability to foresee and identify mitigation strategies for risks

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Masters preferred
