Invitae is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Bioinformatics Operations Team. You will be growing, coaching, and aligning the team towards the shared vision of scaled high quality bioinformatics operations. You will lead the continuous delivery of tools to better analyze and visualize clinical genomic data, evaluate data quality, and automate bioinformatic procedures. You will work alongside software engineers, clinical geneticists, and lab scientists to further deliver on our mission to bring genetic information into mainstream medical practice. 

What you’ll do:

  • Recruit, hire, align, and coach a high-performing team
  • Translate business requirements across the company to best-in-class experiences
  • Facilitate problem-solving across teams
  • Anticipate and respond to quickly changing priorities
  • Recognizing production bottlenecks, investigating their causes, and facilitate lasting solutions
  • Hands-on with our engineering solutions, and driving technical excellence and execution within the team

What you bring:

  • Software engineering principles (eg. interfaces, separation of concerns) and development methodology (agile, CI/CD)
  • 10+ years experience in full-stack web development, including frameworks (eg. Django, React) 
  • 5+ years experience in SQL and noSQL datastores
  • 2+ years experience in DevOps (eg. Docker, Jenkins)
  • 2+ years experience in performance monitoring & alerting (eg. New Relic, Pagerduty)
  • 2+ years experience in NGS bioinformatics (eg. samtools, bwa, Picard, GATK, pandas)
  • Experience with successfully leading teams in a results-based environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across engineering teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with successfully triaging and resolving production incidents
  • Preferred: Experience with LIMS and working in a lab environment
  • Preferred: Experience with data visualization (eg. matplotlib, plotly, D3)
