Whole Foods Market is looking for Front-End Engineers who are passionate, innovative and have a heart for Nourishing People and the Planet by joining the Whole Foods Digital Engineering Services team. This team will be closely aligned with our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and store leadership, will be deployed to tackle some of our most complex and challenging projects and will deliver innovative technical solutions to advance the retail grocery industry.

Our team's mandate is to accelerate the digitalization of the grocery retail space, offering a differentiated customer experience through channels including web and mobile user access. The Role: Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. As a WFM Front-End Engineer, you will help tackle a diverse landscape of technical challenges. We are an early-stage initiative, and you will play an active role in translating business requirements into concrete systems and prototyping concepts in partnership with Amazon, technology leaders within the team and across the business.

You will design, develop and deploy reliable distributed solutions that operate at Amazon scale. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and will have the opportunity to redefine an industry while working with different teams across Amazon and Whole Foods Market. Key Attributes and Responsibilities:

You are as passionate about creating compelling experiences for customers as we are. You know about and continually want to learn more about modern web frameworks. You strive to build highly responsive, intuitive, and sleek experiences for customers. You know about the nuances, pitfalls, strengths, and associated best practices of the various web application paradigms (single-page apps, MVC apps, static site generators, etc.). You’re determined to find the right approach even if it’s not your own. You believe in agile development and quick prototypes, and you strive to see your work in action. You are committed to building scalable, maintainable architectures, and to writing clean, readable code. As a Front-End Engineer (FEE), you will be the technical leader of the development of multiple front-end applications.

You will own technical vision and direction: You identify problems and develop solutions; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running.

Lead beyond your team: You will be a key part of a small but growing community of engineering leaders who support their teams and contribute to the overall growth of our product development organization. You'll share your experience and technical acumen in order to drive technology decisions across our organization.

You will be working alongside some of the smartest engineers at Amazon out of Austin, TX, the best city for BBQ and live music. Line dancing and wearing cowboy boots to the office are optional. Most importantly you’ll be contributing to our Higher Purpose of Nourishing People and the Planet!
 

This is a role at Whole Foods Market in Austin, TX.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience with object-oriented design
• 2+ years of professional non-internship experience with front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience working in a complex, service oriented software development.
• Experience with AWS
• Experience building scalable, available, and low-latency systems
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• AWS experience is a strong plus
• Angular, React, Javascript, GraphQL, Node.js, etc
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
• Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems
• Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
