Operations Engineer
Position Description: Operations Engineer
In order to deliver on our promise, we built banking and payments processing software in-house. We have a rockstar team of people passionate about helping and educating the financially underserved and we are looking for a Financial Analyst to join us in our mission. You will be responsible for day-to-day financial reporting and payments activities, as well as the development of highly sophisticated automated financial models in Excel, SQL, and Python. You will drive the continuous development of our internal and partner-facing financial systems. You will report directly to the Manager of Technical Operations and will get a chance to develop your technical and business skills.
Candidate Description:
You are an expert problem solver and creative thinker, and can see not only all individual details but also the larger picture as a whole. You can understand complex technical projects and translate them into simple business terms for communication with senior management at our business partners and vendors. Likewise, you understand the business and product objectives and can translate them into functional and technical requirements for our developers. You are reliable, hardworking and smart and appreciate working in a fast paced, collaborative environment that rewards ability and empirical results.
Activities and Responsibilities
- Generate daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation reports of customer and payments activity, board and regulatory reports and credit reporting data for our banking partners
- Automate and run our banking core with code/scripts written in python and SQL
- Implement financial systems, processes and procedures to facilitate strong internal control
- Take ownership of process modeling, improvement and documentation
- Design, spec and test financial analysis and reporting features of our banking software to be implemented by engineering
- Responsible for performing the month end financial close process
- Prepare monthly reports for management including monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow); operational reports and analyses
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budgets and operating plans
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 4 year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS
- 2+ years of software industry experience (or 2+ years with Masters/PhD)
- Experience with financial analysis or financial engineering experience in the finance industry; understanding of banks’ reporting requirements a plus
- Solid understanding and application of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
- Strong experience with databases and SQL
- Proficient with scripting technologies such as Python, PostgreSQL
- Ability to work in a Unix-based operating system (Linux, MacOS)
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Visio or similar tools
Recommended Qualifications
- Professional Fintech experience strongly desired
- Professional experience with financial accounting and financial reconciliation
- Understanding of data architecture systems (including data warehousing and data analytics).
- Experience with common software engineering tools such as Git (or other VCS), JIRA, confluence and similar platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies including Project Management, Change Control, Incident Management, IT Controls/Audits and Software Development Lifecycle.
