The Cisco Security Business Group (SBG) focuses on empowering the world to reach its full potential, securely through the Cisco Secure products. The SBG Security team supports this mission by building thoughtful partnerships with our internal partners to drive security strategy alignment across the SBG portfolio. Through these efforts, we are able to deliver simple, effective security solutions for our internal customers that meet both market and industry expectations.
Our team's mission is to become our internal customers' most trusted partners by building best-in-class security programs that shape the market with our research, make it easy for our customer teams within Cisco to develop secure software, protect our most valuable information and customer assets, and enable SBG employees to work securely as they deliver Cisco Secure products including Duo, Umbrella, SecureX, Talos, AMP for Endpoints, StealthWatch, Tetration, and beyond.
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, and our team is our secret weapon. We run the spectrum from artists to analysts, low-key to high energy, and bring together a diversity of skill sets, experiences, and perspectives to solve the sophisticated problems that come with securing a growing business. Together we build solutions that are easy, effective, trustworthy, and enduring.
We are looking for a security engineering leader for our cloud infrastructure security team, to enable the team to execute on existing and new commitments to intra-department teams and SBG business units. We are responsible for keeping the employees, data, and infrastructure of heterogeneous environments and teams secure. If that sounds like an exciting challenge, we want to talk to you!
What you will do:
  • Represent Security within the organization
  • Enable engineers to deliver against quarterly and annual roadmaps and goals
  • Participate in development of broader product roadmaps
  • Coordinate team-wide strategic initiatives
  • Communicate status of initiatives to a large audience of stakeholders
  • Manage day-to-day performance of cloud security engineers
  • Guide the professional development of individual engineering contributors
  • Engage with vendors to support purchasing solutions and tools to enable the engineering team
  • Champion adoption of innovative solutions and technologies within the existing portfolio of security solutions
  • Effectively communicate and influence internal and cross-functional teams to advance initiatives within the organization
  • Track broad, cross-functional projects
  • Identify and communicate security issues, problems, and challenges to the rest of the Security team
  • Support product security and internal security incident response
  • Participate in vendor security management, vulnerability management, and risk assessment
Experience you bring:
  • An understanding of security concepts facing today's captains of industry
  • History of successful mentorship, formal or informal, of junior/intern engineers
  • Familiarity with implementing solutions against compliance frameworks that still achieve the goal and not just check the box
  • Experience building/operating within a rigorous SDLC
  • Proven understanding of security threats facing companies today and ideas about how to address them
  • Substantive experience leading multiple team projects and carrying them to completion.
  • Prior contributions to cross-team collaborations
Skills you have:
  • Ability to understand the business's strategic goals and proactively pursue projects to advance them
  • Ability to take ownership of project tasks, collaborate on work, and deliver on schedule
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture using platforms including AWS
  • The security mindset that can analyze situations, technology, and human systems both as an attacker and defender
  • Knowledge of programming and IaC languages, preferably Python, Go, Terraform
3 reasons to apply:
  • You care about contributing to a collaborative culture and being responsible for providing technical and people leadership
  • You have a passion for automating the easy things in life-and the hard ones too!
  • You thrive on the ambiguous, and desire to strategically explore problem spaces without having a clear goal. Where you're going, you don't need roads!

And, if this role is exciting to you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all 100% of the description or qualifications. Finally, and most importantly, we are a proud Equal Opportunity Employer.
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.
We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we're "old" (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we're also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can't put us in a box!
But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!

An Insider's view of Duo Security

How does your team reward individual success?

It can be as quick as some karma in Slack. We do team appreciations at the start of team meetings and Cisco has connected recognition which allows individuals to recognize the great work someone has done along with a monetary award, from $25 on up! We also celebrate life with team members, for example throwing a virtual baby shower!

Hector

Senior Engineering Manager

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

Our cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and designers, as well as product and security experts is building an intuitive adaptive authentication system. We’re moving past basic rule-based approaches to create a dynamic experience that people will love for keeping them secure while staying unobtrusive.

Brian

Head of Data Science and Engineering

What are some things you learned at the company?

Early on, I thought that success in the security industry was attributed solely to people's ideas or intellect. Since then, I've learned that the most important thing to have in any industry is empathy. Without empathy, you can't build a product that people will love or a place that people will want to work. Empathy is a foundation for success.

Olabode

Senior Data Scientist

What is your vision for the company?

My overall vision is to provide mechanisms for the business to build simple, safe and secure products that our customers and partners intrinsically trust. It is my belief that when we empower our teams and stakeholders to creatively work together instead of falling on process and procedure for the sake of it, our creativity opens to new heights.

Amanda

Head of Product Security

What makes someone successful on your team?

Success for us is taking the road less traveled to achieve better results, meaning we look for teammates who bring perspectives from all walks of life and who are not afraid to use their voice. We believe this combination results in good outcomes because we end up paving our path to success with a diversity of thought.

Amanda

Internal Communications Manager
