Overview

 

The HEB Core Network Engineering team is growing and we’re seeking a highly talented and motivated manager to lead the Core Network Edge (Stores) Engineering team. This team is responsible for design, build, and support of foundational network and security solutions for HEB Stores environments that allow our partner Digital teams to deliver responsive, highly available, and reliable solutions to H-E-B business partners and customers.

As the Manager of Core Networking Edge(Stores), you will be responsible for managing the end to end lifecycle management, automation, security , design , deployment, capacity planning, operations, observability and reliability of the HEB Stores network. You will lead the development and delivery of new designs and services into the Stores networks and partner with internal customers, field services, engineering, development and product teams to achieve successful outcomes for the business. The ideal candidate would possess technical acumen and demonstrated progression in managerial responsibilities and carry a relentless passion to thrive in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.

 

What You'll Do

 

  • Lead a team of 8 highly skilled Network Engineers responsible for the design, upgrade, automation, deployment, scaling of current/next generation HEB Store networks and help cultivate a discipline of full stack ownership

  • Partner with the team to build and drive innovative strategies to automate network infrastructure services and solutions supporting HEB Store operations

  • Work closely with the recruitment team to expand the team, including sourcing, interviewing, on-boarding candidates

  • Empower engineers to develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work patterns

  • Assess team performance consistently, address performance opportunities, recognizes and promotes top performances, and offers effective feedback and coaching when necessary

  • Establishes team goals and objectives, contributes to organizational goal setting and puts in place measurements tracking performance against goals

  • Lead incident response, postmortems, root-cause analysis and operations improvements that result in automated workflows and better detection & mitigation of network failures

  • Analyze network build options, and generate clear and objective analysis recommendations for management review, approval and budgeting

  • Build and negotiate RFI/RFP proposals for new Store network infrastructures

  • Operate in a fast paced environment, adapting quickly to new information, managing resource allocation and team deliverables for effective service delivery

  • Planning and creating network deployment schedules, and proactively working with partner digital and field service teams to remove roadblocks to meeting deadlines

  • Develop and prepare project and incident management documentation, work breakdown structures, process maps, presentations and tracking reports to provide detailed project status to digital stakeholders and senior leadership

  • Adheres to applicable regulatory statutes; maintains compliant infrastructure posture, specifically PCI, HIPAA

  • Develops and maintains stakeholder relationships, alignment on engagement priorities to unblock the business and offer frictionless network service delivery

  • Help define and drive regular development of an aggressive technical roadmaps to proactively meet the needs of the different business stakeholders and partner digital teams

  • Hold your own in technical , change review discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence

  • Define and manage on-call rotation structures for the team

Who You Are

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a field related to Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software or a related technical discipline or equivalent practical work experience

  • 4+ years of practical experience working in the network technology domain

  • 1-3 years of experience leading a team in the network engineering field

  • Experience managing network operations in a 24x7 production enterprise network

  • Strong people and technical leadership with mentorship acumen to grow and groom a network engineering team while ensuring good engineering discipline

  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, on-boarding, developing, performance managing technical teams comprising of highly technical engineers

  • Experience with network software development, general software programming languages in Java, C/C++, Python, Go, SQL and network automation frameworks

  • Experience drafting and reviewing code

  • Experienced in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operational network environment

  • Experience in TCP/IP and network programming fundamentals

  • Proven track record of success in delivering complex network design, refresh, installation, upgrade projects for large enterprise grade networks, including coordinating and driving issues to resolution autonomously with proficient project management skills

  • Demonstrated with driving telecom activities, including developing RFPs, contract negotiations, and vendor selections

  • Experience extracting business and technical needs across locations and drive effective solution delivery

  • Experience in Agile management methodologies

  • Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision in a fast paced technology environment

  • A key influencer in defining team strategy, goal and vision

  • You have empathy and can connect with engineering leaders and non-technical stakeholders

  • You understand the value of work-life balance, and bias toward sustainable engineering practices

  • You appreciate the value of diversity and inclusion on teams

  • You have expert knowledge of network systems and services architecture and design patterns

  • You have deep knowledge of multiple network technologies, including technology used at H-E-B

  • You have an good understanding of network development, automation methodologies and processes

  • You have a proven track record of implementing world-class network infrastructures at H-E-B’s scale

  • You understand cross-tech stacks, and scalability and reliability implications

  • You're capable of learning new technologies, processes, or business quickly and effectively

  • You approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and processes

  • You can coordinate work for multiple teams of engineers on major initiatives to deliver results that have a big impact on the business at large

  • You have strong written, verbal communication and agile project/workload management skills

  • You can develop and deliver projects that have significant business and/or customer impact

  • You have strong presentation skills relevant for presenting to senior leadership

  • You have a strong desire to innovate, ability to multitask, sense of ownership, and urgency
