We are looking to add a Materials Engineer to our team. The ideal candidate is experienced in materials science and engineering for the aerospace or automotive industries. If you are great at what you do, enjoy working in a startup environment, and are passionate about product development, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will be a key member of our product development team, leading the materials selection, qualification, failure root-cause analysis, standardization, vendor evaluations, and performance verification efforts. The rapid growth of our team, programs, and product potential is just beginning, and you will bring a critical skill to our diverse and talented team. We are building a communications platform for the next global network frontier, and that begins with an engineering team of uncommon capability and visionary leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identification, selection, development, implementation, standardization, qualification, failure root-cause analysis, and performance verification of advanced aerospace materials
  • Provide materials and processes (M&P) technical guidance and direction to engineering design, test, production, and maintenance phases of Cesium projects
  • Use independent research to gain advanced knowledge and ideas to guide the development of next-generation Cesium products and offer implementation solutions to highly complex problems.
  • Review customer requests for proposals, statements of work, and specifications to identify materials requirements.
  • Develop a roadmap for state-of-the materials, and work with the engineering design team for an effective product upgrade strategy
  • Develop materials laboratory capabilities and analysis methods to qualify new materials and process methods for high-density electronics applications.
  • Evaluate materials for compliance to industry requirements such as OSHA hazard communication safety data sheets
  • Generate materials procurement and screening documents for military and aerospace programs as required by commercial and DoD standards and contracts.
  • Write and review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to materials-level procurement and test control documents.
  • Review screening and test data received from manufacturers and test laboratories for compliance to specifications, purchase order requirements, and program contract compliance.
  • Evaluate defective materials and failure analysis reports as required. Interface internally with design engineers, reliability engineers, and quality engineers in support of risk mitigation and product development review efforts.
  • Perform and review key reliability analyses: prediction, derating, and FMECA.
  • Apply military and aerospace industry reliability criteria (MIL-STD-1547B, etc.) to analyze and coordinate adjustments for compliance with designers
  • Interact and develop and present materials for program and project briefings, including internal and external customer design reviews
  • Collaborate with a geographically wide, multi-discipline, and diverse team including design, manufacturing, quality, and procurement

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Other advanced technical degrees (e.g. Chemistry, Physics) will be considered.
  • Excellent working knowledge in at least one area of metals, ceramics, plastics, adhesives, coatings, or composites
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant prior experience
  • Experience in assessing components and materials for compliance to industry requirements such JEDEC
  • Experience in writing and reviewing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to materials-level procurement and test control documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong desire to change an industry and disrupt incumbent players
  • Sense of urgency, with the ability to work independently under agile development timelines.
  • Willingness to learn and work in both a support capacity and as a lead on differing functions.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science or a relevant field
  • Knowledge and working history with key reliability analyses for space mission hardware (prediction, derating, FMECA, WCA)
  • Experience with shielding electronics against space radiation effects
  • Experience wearing multiple hats at a rapidly growing startup company
  • Background in high-frequency RF technologies (e.g. materials for EMI shielding or radomes)

We provide a generous benefits and stock option package to all our employees.
