Overview

At LegalZoom, we simply do not believe that it should cost thousands of dollars to create a will, form a business, or apply for a trademark. We started a movement to make legal help available to all.

We’re looking for Principal Software Engineers who love to influence technical & business outcomes & inspire teams. If you are a self-starter and have helped teams ship consumer or business products at scale, this might be the role for you.

Your job will be to help build and deliver new software and systems leveraging your technical expertise, tapping into industry trends and proposing engineering process improvements.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in software design, developing and managing the delivery of highly scalable, services & cloud-based systems, leveraging a combination of front end and backend technologies.

Responsibilities include:

• Participate in all phases of the software lifecycle, partnering with Product Management & Design
• Participate in all phases of the software lifecycle, partnering with Product Management & Design
• Act as the technical subject matter expert: Mentor engineers, demonstrate technical expertise, and lead teams solving challenging business and technical problems
• Champion continuous re-factoring and pragmatic adoption of new technologies and frameworks.
• Synthesize achievable solutions from diverse inputs and alternative approaches (build / buy / partner).
• Enrich the Engineering culture by fostering an environment of curiosity, learning, and inclusivity.
• Contribute to the organization’s identity, standards, guidelines and best practices

Skills and Experience

• Cloud Focused – You have a passion for building cloud native everything. You have experience with native cloud apps, and you enjoy transforming to modern stacks.  You might not be an expert in every area, but you are well rounded in SaaS cloud development.
• Curiosity – You learn as much by writing coding as you do by reading it. In fact, you read far more code than you write, and you love doing PRs if only just to learn about what other teams are doing. 
• Passionate – You are opinionated and passionate about solving complex customer problems.
• Ownership – You leave systems in better shape than they were before you touched them. You do not like to see broken windows, and you always work to fix them when you can.  You have lead teams before both directly and indirectly.  You are skilled at influencing teams and stakeholders throughout the organization to make solid Product and Technical decisions
• Change Agent – While there are tools and platforms you may prefer, you are always forward looking and not stuck on any one solution.
• Experienced – Shipping at scale, large projects, complexity all excites you. You have probably worked in this field for a considerable time, hands on for most of them.
• Security First Mindset – applications security is an obsession. You are passionate about teaching others about security best practices.
