What you'll do (Design & Development)
- Lead, coach, and mentor engineers and teams; provide technical direction and priorities
- Provide direction to support the build / deployment pipeline; diagnose / solve complex production support issues
- Recommend / influence solutions for new features while considering technology alternatives, impacts, and tradeoffs
- Collaborates with Product, Design, and QA to strategize and deliver world-class digital experiences
- Get the opportunity to stay ahead of new technologies with an eye to evaluating and potentially incorporating them into your team's architecture; introduce new technologies that have ROI or influence at group / department level
- Influence and drive strategy to improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our high-performance, consumer-scale site and mobile apps
- Recommend changes to processes / tools organization-wide based on industry standards, patterns and practices
- Influence others in technical decision-making and technology adoption within their domain
- Diagnose / troubleshoot the most complex issues independently
- Identify a technical roadmap to deliver X-large scale, multi-system initiative
- Grow Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
- Identify system-wide improvements with an eye on industry best practices and re-use across all teams; champion those ideas to upper management and team
- Participate in creation and sustainment of user groups
- Work across teams with foresight for potential dependencies or other issues
- Generate ideas that help make / save the company money through technical foresight, leadership, or vision in opportunity
- Publish internal white papers
- Provide strong technical representation of H-E-B Digital at external events (industry conferences, etc.)
- Provide end-to-end support to applications

Who You Are

- You have strong experience with back end development in Java (preferred), Go, Python, or other back end languages

- You have experience with Microservices Architecture

- You have experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS or GCP
- You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of timely delivery of high-quality software
- You're an expert in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly on-board to projects in minimal time
- You're capable of working in any technology stack (new or legacy)
- You have broad knowledge of various architectural patterns and technologies
- You have 10+ years of overall development experience
- You have 5+ years of successful experience as a Staff Software Engineer or equivalent
- You have a related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
