QA Engineer

Modernize is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join our software development team. This role provides testing and verification for all reporting and database needs within the organization as well as thorough process implementation for testing software that comes out of our development group. The ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of business logic as it pertains to data validation and software testing techniques to ensure software and reporting release quality across the company. What you will be doing:

• Develop a deep understanding of our databases and how they interrelate to verify reporting metrics
• Replicate complex business logic for the purpose of data validation
• Compare large data sets within our database and reporting systems
• Develop procedures for testing existing software and new releases in both staging and production cloud environments
• Document software failures and anomalies providing thorough detail to facilitate reproduction by developers, or work to identify root cause
• Anticipate program release problems and take corrective action, escalating as needed, to resolve and achieve commitments
• Create, execute, and maintain manual and automated tests
• Test user stories for incomplete information or incorrect assumptions and conclusions
• Develop new test cases for features and bug reports
• Document and communicate testing procedures and results
• Develop and maintain QA automation suites
• Manage staging environment used for testing
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to prioritize and resolve issues

What you will need:

• 2+ years software testing experience
• Strong understanding of SQL queries and database structure
• Experience with Excel
• Experience in test case and defect creation
• Troubleshooting and problem tracking skills
• Experience in Agile and/or Kanban methodology
• Experience in hands on configuration and setup of test automation framework/platforms

Nice to have:

• Basic Linux administration skills, e.g. shell scripting
• Experience with the AWS cloud environment
• Desire and/or ability to travel to Austin, TX
