We are looking to add a Radiation Effects Engineer to our team. If you are great at what you do, enjoy working in a startup environment, and are passionate about developing hardware for leading-edge satellite, spacecraft, and aerospace communication systems, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will be responsible for Cesium’s Radiation Effects program. We are looking to hire candidates with varied experience levels, ranging from seasoned radiation effects professionals to recent graduates in Electrical Engineering.

The core skill required is a thorough understanding of electronic components and systems. Additionally, exceptional organizational skills will allow the successful candidate to maintain clear, accurate, and accessible records and coordinate testing processes. A strong understanding of the physics and statistics of radiation effects, or willingness to develop such understanding, is critical.

Responsibilities include:

  • Own the Radiation Hardness Assurance plan for a growing “New Space” company designing cutting-edge electronics products for Low Earth Orbit and beyond.
  • Provide radiation effects guidance for product owners and hardware and software design staff.
  • Perform system-level analysis of radiation risk.
  • Plan and execute board-level and component-level radiation testing.
  • Perform space weather studies and develop radiation requirements for missions.
  • Develop guidelines and strategies for radiation-tolerant designs.
  • Participate in design reviews for hardware, software, and firmware to ensure radiation reliability.
  • Participate in program management to plan and schedule radiation testing.
  • Manage component test data processing, storage, and dissemination.
  • Understanding the latest industry standards and best practices for radiation effects.
  • Maintain the radiation effects library for ease of access.

The successful candidate will present engineering design review materials to our customers and executive team, as well as participate in proposal-writing efforts. As such, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Successful candidates will require, as a minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an accredited university or institution.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments such as digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Hands-on programming experience with Python or similar languages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in electronics hardware design and/or component engineering. More experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply.
    • o For this position, we are looking to hire a mix of candidates ranging from new graduates to seasoned electronics radiation effects specialists.
    • Radiation effects analysis and test.
    • Test plan development.
    • Test script programming in Python or similar.
    • Worst-case circuit analysis.
    • Aerospace industry experience.
    • Proficiency with statistics and particle physics.
