Unizin is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in downtown Austin to develop high scale applications used by over a million faculty and students in higher education. The right candidate wants to use modern technologies and continuously learn while pragmatically building on a small team with a large mission.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly scalable infrastructure and APIs
• Use Django, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and more every day
• Become an expert in the Unizin’s Content and Data platforms
• Containerize and CI/CD applications in a modern DevOps paradigm
• Work in Google Cloud and AWS
• Work in an agile-based environment using tools like GitHub and Slack
• Contribute to architecture decisions and communicate openly with other engineers
• Experience working in a GNU/Linux environment and writing shell scripts
• Build beautiful applications for Faculty, Students, and other academic staff
• Collaborate with other teams including product, UX, services, support, and our member university technology staff as needed

Requirements

• Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years full-stack experience building commercial scaled applications in the cloud
• Python/Django experience
• PostgreSQL experience
• Docker, Kubernetes experience
• Production experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud
• Motivated to make a difference
• Proven drive to learn
• Ability to and interest in mentoring junior developers on your team
• Preference for small teams and organizations
• Desire to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
