Sips by makes discovering tea fun, personalized and affordable. Tens of thousands of tea drinkers are matched with four teas each month, chosen from more than 150 global brand partners. Sips by is a thought-leader in the tea industry and delights hundreds of thousands of U.S. tea drinkers through educational and lifestyle content. 

Outside the Sips by Box itself, the website is the primary interface for customers to interact with Sips by, and through the website we augment the experience of the Sips by box by allowing our tea drinkers to explore the world of tea, engage with our products, configure their experience, and much more. A backend engineer at Sips by will work on the backend for the customer-facing website, as well as internal tools and infrastructure needed to keep our operations running smoothly.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

• Contribute to the Sips by backend, which powers our customer facing front-end, internal admin-tools and operations
• Build performant GQL APIs to enable rapid front-end development, and smart backend services for deferred execution and periodic processing
• Use Python, Django and Celery, and evaluate other technologies that can improve our systems
• Interface with multiple external platforms, including Shopify
• Write code that is efficient and robust, and well documented
• Deal with database concurrency, locking, indexing etc. to ensure our system will scale without trouble.
• Debug and resolve memory, efficiency and reliability issues, and work on tooling to improve overall reliability and performance over time
• Have opportunities to work on algorithms (ML and other), infrastructure, security, automation, etc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Master of Computer Science
• 5+ years of professional experience with Python
• 3+ years of professional experience with MySQL
• Expert user of Django ORM, and understanding of how queries map to MySQL
• Experience debugging python / linux / infrastructure problems
• Experience with Linux
• Preferably experience with Celery, GraphQL
• Bonus Points: 
• Experience with Tensorflow and production-ready neural networks
• Experience with AWS services, deployment automation, etc.
• Deep experience and understanding of Linux, build tools, etc.
• Experience with and ability to set up CI/CD flows
• Experience with infrastructure planning
• Experience with billing systems and PCI compliance
• Experience with application and infrastructure security
