As a Senior Communications Engineer at MongoDB, you will write, edit, and advise the viewpoint of the MongoDB engineering team and its executives, utilizing a combination of skills in communications and software engineering. You will have high transparency of work both internally and externally and gain extensive exposure across the organization and have the opportunity to work directly with our C-suite, VPs, and other leads. This role is an outstanding fitting role for hybrid humanities/tech personalities.

Team Description

Engineering Communications collaborates with a variety of teams including but not limited to Developer Relations, Product Marketing, Product Management, Engineering, Field Marketing, and Design. Our core mission is to build experiences to achieve MongoDB's, strategic technical messaging goals. In that function

• We represent our engineering organization to its peers in the technology community.
• We collaborate with non-engineering communications teams to review content for technical accuracy and ensure messaging is authentic for developers.
• We build high production-value presentations complete with live demos.
• We support the crafting of the overall narrative of the work and product of the engineering team.

Engineering Communication is central to ensuring our engineering organization is well regarded, and our messaging is authentic.

Candidate Profile:Position Expectations:

• Write and rehearse presentation material with engineering executives and other key partners
• Conceptualize product demos and compose collateral to accompany them
• Review and understand code for live demos
• Train presenters to deliver extraordinary main-stage demos
• Work with designers and engineers to produce slides and printed collateral for keynotes and other critical presentations, such as architecture diagrams and code samples
• Engage with the software engineering community on- and offline
• Give engineering mentorship to press releases as requested
• Assist product marketing with messaging editorial
• When it is safe to travel again, travel to developer conference events and work with the field team to ensure keynotes run efficiently

Requirements:

• Interest in crafting experiences for our audience that go beyond the average keynote or conference booth
• Excellent written communication skills with experience in both composing and editing
• Proficient command of the English language
• A background in tech and software development
• Ability to build accurate, succinct, and sophisticated slides
• The ability to explain editing rationales to less experienced writers or non-technical collaborators
• The ability to resolve conflicting edits and gain partner consensus in a document

Nice to have:

• An existing interest in watching conference keynotes with an eye for content and presentation design
• Experience organizing conference booth setups
• Experience with Illustrator / Photoshop
• Experience editing videos

Success Measures:

• In 3 months:
• Go through MongoDB New Hire Technical Training
• Be familiar with MongoDB's presentation style and technical message
• Update and improve an existing slide deck for subsequent delivery
• Work on repurposing and building on existing content
• In 6 months:
• Partner with field marketing and product managers to conceptualize on the content we can build that can be used virtually and in-person
• In 12 months:
• Wholly own segments of a major keynote or event booth
• Build three new presentations, shepherding through the full process and showing strength in our message and executive voice
