Hyliion is looking for a Senior Controls Verification and Integration Engineer to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.  You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems.  In this role, you will be developing the subsystem of the vehicle, taking designs from the conceptual stage through final implementation and production. Reports to Director Controls and Software Engineering

  • Lead the development of Hyliion’s Controls and Software products for Class-8 truck applications
  • Build controls team to support Hyliion’s growth
  • Develop and test new software for Hyliion’s powertrain and drivetrain solutions to deliver industry leading performance and vehicle range
  • Support the qualification and testing of new vehicle control systems
  • Develop state-of-the art battery controls solutions
  • Develop calibration solutions for multiple Hyliion electrification products
  • Work with outside engineering partners to delegate and track work packets while in parallel continuing to build the capabilities of Hyliion’s controls team
  • Represent Hyliion and present technical papers at key industry conferences

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

    • ISO 26262
    • Software Processes and Quality Assurance
    • Software Requirements Management
    • Software Design and Automation
    • Software Testing Methods for Embedded Systems (MiL, SiL, PiL, RCP)
    • Security and Security Management Methods
    • J1939
    • Diagnostics / Prognostics
    • Cloud
    • Agile V-Model
    • Model based function implementation and integration
    • Battery Technologies & BMS
    • ADAS systems
    • Electrified Components including Motors and Motor Controllers
    • Conventional Powertrain and OBD Requirements
    • Vehicle wiring systems
  • Experienced with cloud services and API’s, particularly REST API’s
  • Experience with communications protocols like CAN, USB, ethernet, TCP/IP
  • Understanding of networking and networked-computing concepts is required; specifically, synchronization, race conditions and debugging communication protocols
  • Competency with modern collaboration tools (like Slack, Jira Service Desk)
  • Experienced with Atlassian products including Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket
  • Experienced with the agile development process
  • Expert in developing high-level software architectures
  • APQP toolsets including FMEAs and DVP&R
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Position will involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
  • Ability to communicate with customers positively and effectively (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments

Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year experience in an automotive electrification environment
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
