Evernote is looking for a high-performing Engineering Director to lead the engineering group that builds and maintains its class-leading note taking application for all large and small screen formats, across all operating systems. These applications are brand new and have been built from the ground up using contemporary, cross-platform open-source software. The team is responsible for product architecture and UI components of Evernote for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Web, and Linux, with likely extensions beyond this set of host platforms (for example - ChromeOS, WatchOS). You will work closely with a very talented group of dedicated and knowledgeable managers and engineers to manage the entire engineering lifecycle of our applications, from design to release and beyond, through production operations. You will also collaborate closely with your peers from Product Management, Design, Support and Marketing to synthesize customer feedback on existing and new features and blend that with business strategy to create and maintain a roadmap. You will represent, advocate, and account for your group to Evernote’s leadership team, which includes the CEO and heads of support, design, product management, marketing, HR, legal, and finance.

You are passionate about building quality software, obsessing over performance and responsiveness. Your team drives strategic changes that span across all product features in Evernote as the apps that your teams own serve as the vehicles for features from all engineering teams. You will accomplish this by shipping new functionality, building shared components, and shepherding the overall app architecture for web, desktop, and mobile. Your teams’ code will enable safer, faster development of sophisticated features from all other engineering groups. You will use your deep understanding of building and scaling teams and applications to make our desktop and mobile experience best-in-class.

What you’ll do:

• Manage and grow a strong engineering team focused on delivering results and on engineering excellence across the development lifecycle - design, build, test, release, and operate, i.e., a full ownership model
• Maintain and improve your team’s operational posture, as represented by your Service Level Goals, backed by metrics, monitoring, on-call rotations, and retrospectives, among others
• Maintain a robust and predictable platform release process that other client and cloud engineering teams can rely on to release their deliverables in a timely manner
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Support, & Marketing counterparts to define your team’s vision and roadmap
• Lead and participate in engineering-wide initiatives as a member of the leadership team
• Drive collaboration and grow leadership within your team

What you’ve done:

• 8+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of people management experience
• 2.5+ years of experience with Javascript, React, GraphQL
• Experience building Electron and ReactNative cross-platform apps is a plus
• Proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced and evolving environment
• Experience managing a distributed team is a plus as your team is in multiple locations, primarily in the US, Chile, Eastern Europe, and India
