Hyliion is looking for a Sr Manager – Diagnostics, Service & Processes to join our team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.  You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. The Sr Manager- Diagnostics, Service & Processes will lead his/her team in the design and development of Hyliion products for OBD compliance, diagnostic strategy and implementation, software tools development or selection for fault management, h/w or s/w update process for production and customer vehicles, establish repair & service procedures and service test communications based on known industry-standard protocols (J1939, J1708 for commercial vehicles). Implement general industrial and OEM-specific diagnosis requirements and specification, preparing diagnostic tool software as per vehicle car line, and participating in vehicle testing of applications. Reports to Director of Powertrain.

  • Lead a team of diagnostics, service, repair, reman, recycle, and process engineers support vehicle program, manufacturing production lines, and dealer service on Software Flashing, Vehicle Diagnosis, System Calibration, and setting. Hire Engineers (OBD/Diagnostics, Service, Process etc. ) as needed.
  • Develop and maintain company diagnostics strategy for Product Development, Operations, Manufacturing and Aftersales Service. 
  • Work on Diagnostics Fault Management, Diagnostics Commands, Programming Interfaces, OTA, Programming Interfaces development, and Manufacturing, and provide plant support when needed. 
  • Lead and generate technical solutions, including specifying of requirements, functional decomposition, analysis, development, and testing for full vehicle diagnostics. 
  • Develop, test, and help release SW components that handle vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTCs), Diagnostic Command IDs (DIDs), and Process Command IDs (PIDs). 
  • Lead development of UDS diagnostic requirements for systems & subsystems. Create/Maintain and release UDS diagnostic files (CDD, ODX etc formats)
  • Facilitate the creation of module specific diagnostic specifications for each electrical component. Test, debug, troubleshoot, maintain, and deploy applications. 
  • Ensure applications meet Hyliion automotive quality standards. 
  • Initiate, maintain, and drive to completion Change Requests (including S/W bugs). 
  • Draft, finalize, and maintain requirements, specifications, and test cases -as needed
  • Validate a vehicle diagnostic feature with CANoe/CANalyzer and CDD/ODX. 
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives. 
  • Assist in development of FMEA, DVP&R, Best Practices, Corporate Processes etc
  • Other duties, as assigned.

  • Competency with modern collaboration tools (like Slack, Jira Service Desk)
  • Experienced with Atlassian products including Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket
  • Experienced with the agile development process
  • Expert in developing high-level software architectures
  • APQP toolsets including FMEAs and DVP&R
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Position will involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
  • Ability to positively and effectively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments

Qualifications:

  • B.S in Mechanical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial or equivalent (Master’s preferred). 
  • 5+ years of experience with developing Vehicle Diagnostic Tool applications, Java and NET, C, C++, Matlab, CANalyzer, and CANoe. 
  • Strong knowledge of diagnostic and vehicle communication protocols (ISO 14229, ISO 13400, ISO 15765, ISO 22901, J1929, J1708 and J1979) and Functional Safety ISO26262
  • Experience with developing complex test sequences like ECU programming. 
  • Familiar with ASPICE and Software Development Life Cycle
  • Thorough Knowledge and experience of HEV/EV. Automotive OEM experience on multiple programs from concept to launch
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. High interpersonal skills. Be able to handle a fast-paced environment. 
  • Able to work independently; provide status updates to supervisor on a regular basis. 
  • Strong organizational and management skills. Ability to analyze complex problems and propose solutions. 
  • Proficient with defining and enforcing processes, revision control/source control. Evaluate gaps in systems process and propose solutions. 
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and JIRA.

  • Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
