POSITION SUMMARY 

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain software services and platforms to support ordering and data management for genetic lab tests.  You will help to determine which components of existing products can be transformed into these platforms, and to deploy these new services across Natera's growing line of genetic testing products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make key design and technical implementation decisions and help guide engineering vision.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define requirements, and transform them into scalable and reliable developer-friendly services.
  • Design, build and maintain sustainable systems to support our business applications.
  • Continue improving process and procedure and evangelizing best practices.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers toward technical excellence.
  • Lead the end-to-end execution of compliance initiatives.
  • This role works with Protected Health Information (PHI) on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and has access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job. 
  • The employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.
  • The employee must pass a post-offer criminal background check.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in computer science, comparable program, or equivalent.  MS preferred
  • 8+ years of overall software development experience, preferably building complex data or process management applications
  • Experience with object-oriented programming in Java, preferably using an open source framework such as Spring and Hibernate
  • Expertise with enterprise architecture, cross-platform integration, and building scalable applications in heterogeneous environments
  • Experience with service-oriented and micro-service architectures
  • Strong relational database skills including database design and optimization
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Solid analytical background
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Healthcare IT experience is beneficial, but not required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Object Oriented Programming
  • Java Enterprise Edition
  • Spring Framework
  • Relational Database and SQL Programming, prefer MySQL
  • AWS Services, such as SQS, S3 and SNS
  • Docker or container-oriented technologies
  • REST API and Micro-services architectures
  • Linux/Unix
  • CI / CD
  • XML and JSON
  • Quality Assurance Mindset 
  • Nice to have: ElasticSearch or equivalent
  • Nice to have: Low-code and/or Business Process Management systems
