About the Team

The Engineering Team is responsible for building and running all the products that Subsplash offers. We are a super-star team of software engineering, QA, and site reliability professionals creating polished experiences for our clients and end-users. The Engineering Team is responsible for the entire user experience including: Mobile Apps (end-user facing), Subsplash Giving, the Subsplash Dashboard CMS (client-facing), Web App, TV App, backend data feeds, analytics, SnapPages (website builder) and more. We serve thousands of clients, millions of end-users, and billions of individual app impressions.

About the Role

As a Site Reliability Engineer II (SRE II), you will report to the Manager of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE Manager).  In this role, you will advocate for high structural quality of our systems infrastructure for both production and development operations. You are a pivotal team member sharing responsibility for the Reliability, Security, and Maintainability of the Subsplash App Platform. Effective engineering ensures the configuration, scale, and performance of the platform services and applications meet the requirements of internal and external users. You will work well with other members of the team, in a remote-first, distributed team environment, to help deliver working software early and often. 

Your Priorities

  • Achieve an operational uptime of 99.99% and above, across all services
  • Operate and monitor cloud server, Kubernetes, Serverless, and hosted database systems
  • Support automated deployment, operation, monitoring, and issue resolution of the Subsplash App Platform and related systems
  • Accomplish assigned Issues, Stories, and tasks timely and with excellence
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotation, responding, and collaborating with engineers to resolve issues in a timely fashion
  • Maintain good internal documentation in tickets, wikis, and README files
  • Collaborate well and asynchronously with teams of developers, designers, project managers, and testers to ensure we are delivering delight to the users of our products

Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years of full-time Site Reliability related work
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with building, maintaining, and supporting workloads in public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure), ideally via APIs
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and related automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, and/or Ansible
  • Competent with source control management (i.e. git, Visual Studio Code, Merge/Pull Reviews)
  • Kubernetes competency including supporting tools such as kubectl, helm, Prometheus, and Grafana
  • Proven experience in container orchestration esp. Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency in Observability (Prometheus, ELK, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • Well-versed in Identity and Access Management best practices such as RBAC, least privilege, MFA, and secrets management
  • Practical experience developing in Shell scripts, Python, JSON, YAML, etc.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and core technologies (DNS, TLS, HTTPS, etc.)
  • Fundamental understanding of data storage technologies such as MySQL, Postgres, and/or MongoDB
  • Embraces the Agile, collaborative workflows (Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment,  feature-driven, and test-driven development processes, Kanban, LEAN, and SOLID a plus)
  • Desire to serve faith-based organizations a plus
  • Developing Terraform modules, importing, maintaining state, ensuring that IAC pipelines result in consistent cloud platforms across environments
  • Diagnose, resolve, and prepare written analysis for Reliability issues (RCAs)
  • Evangelize, implement and champion best practices for security across the entire stack
  • Linux system administration, monitoring, hardware failure diagnosis/root cause analysis, firmware updates, software package, and repository management, with strong system troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and write maintainable code in one of the following languages: Go, C/C++, PHP, Java, SQL
  • Dependable, flexible, humble, teachable, disciplined, and proactive: get a lot done with limited direction
  • Comfortable with server-side web technologies: Unix/Linux (Ubuntu), Apache/Nginx, MySQL,  MongoDB a plus, Go, PHP (Lithium framework a plus)
  • Experience with managing large volume and high throughput database systems
  • Experience with managing databases in large-scale distributed Linux environments
  • Knowledge of data security best practices related to PCI/DSS/CISP/HIPAA
  • Able to prioritize multiple projects, tasks, and bug fixes with good communication skills
