ABOUT THE ROLE
We are building the Center of Engineering Excellence at Babylon. You will be building/configuring/setting up tools, test automation frameworks, pipelines aimed at improving and accelerating Engineering Excellence across our teams through automation in testing and processes.
Your products will be built with maintainability, scalability and simplicity in mind. This isn't a standard Engineering Manager, Quality Engineering Manager or SRE Manager role. Rather, this is a role that complements all these functions and sits in our Engineering Excellence Department. And, you will be building your dream team from the ground up!
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you understand platform thinking, continuous integration, BDD and TDD. You drive for maintainable automation wherever possible and push the boundaries of our automation capabilities. You will build a team of highly skilled software engineers who will create and evolve the tools & frameworks that will let us rapidly engineer at scale. Your team will facilitate/enable other teams across the business ensuring we create world-class healthcare solutions.
In this role, you will need to understand Engineering, Quality engineering & Delivery toil across the organization and build automation solutions that address them. You will be driven by metrics and prioritize your efforts to make the highest impact. You will be comfortable working in a large organization and collaborating with multiple teams regularly.
You will know how to build, retain, manage, and train high performing teams that can build fast.
While this is not primarily a hands-on role, we expect our engineering managers to be able to stay close to the codebase and engineering decisions, including by making active contributions.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Lead engineering teams to provide tools that allow rapid engineering & quality engineering at scale.
• Coach and mentor engineers & quality engineers of all levels - create a learning environment that provides psychological safety and inclusivity and a high level of job satisfaction
• Hire, mentor, grow, and manage the performance of engineering talent
• Deliver maintainable and simple systems for consumption by internal teams
• Lead effective configuration of CI/CD pipelines
• Ensure regular stakeholder demos with key metrics
• Ability to own, define and refine the products you are building

ABOUT YOU

• Up-to-date experience in management and mentorship of engineering personnel - and execution against commitments
• Comfortable with management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
• Experience with Engineering, Quality engineering and Reliability engineering functions
• Experience with defining and owning the products that your team builds
• Strong problem solving and analytical mindset - with the ability to manage software engineering processes, especially in regulated environments
• Extensive experience in building scalable platforms - familiar with multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technologies - and BDD, ATDD, TDD
• Expertise with creating and configuring complex CI/CD pipelines with well defined quality gates
• Experience with at least two of Python, Java and Typescript
