Invitae Cloud is an internal platform designed to make software development at Invitae fast, intuitive, compliant, flexible, and more secure. It is easy to support, debug, and automatically keeps costs in check. It provides centralized observability capabilities to engineering, reliability, and the business. It is always on and supports the engineering lifecycle from prototyping to decommission. It addresses cross-cutting requirements like security, privacy, compliance, reliability, availability, and supportability at the platform level, focusing engineering on their business goals.

The mission for our team is to accelerate the development and deployment of new applications to the Invitae Cloud platform. We build and refine tools, services, and applications to create better user experiences for Invitae developers. 

We are looking for engineers who are biased towards automation and standardization, tackling problems at the platform level.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with others on a cross-functional team to design and build the Invitae Cloud platform.
  • Be a thought leader, set design principles and define shared patterns that engineers leverage across the company.
  • Write structured, testable, readable, and maintainable code in Go, Typescript, and Python.
  • Write and maintain thorough and readable documentation.
  • Build systems to reduce the complexity and cost of deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes.
  • Build systems to automate the creation and management of infrastructure in cloud providers using tools like Terraform and/or Kubernetes add-ons like CrossPlane.
  • Build Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Command-Line Interfaces (CLIs) used by Invitae developers and internal applications.
  • Build and maintain full stack applications, templates, and plugins as part of the Invitae Cloud platform.
  • Participate in on-call rotations with your cross-functional team to provide support and discover the product’s pain points. 
  • Continuously learn new technologies, programming languages, design patterns, and/or software tools to improve the team’s overall effectiveness.

What you bring:

  • Excellent asynchronous communication skills. Experience with distributed, remote teams is a plus.
  • Experience in making critical technical decisions that impact multiple teams.
  • Comfortable reading and writing code with at least one of Go, Typescript, or Python.
  • Proficient technical writing skills.
  • Experience automating deployments, scaling, and management of containerized applications. In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker is a big plus.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and cloud providers. Comfortable reading and writing Terraform and In-depth knowledge of AWS is a big plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with full-stack architecture and engineering. Including designing and building Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
  • Experience in supporting engineering teams and production systems.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and new programming languages.
  • A passion for personal and professional growth.
