A Babylon Software Engineer works as part of an agile squad to build software to meet product requirements. A Software Engineer spends the majority of their time working on user stories and tasks and building well-structured and well-tested code to meet requirements. They can expect to take part in the usual scrum ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning and sprint retrospectives. A Software Engineer is expected to follow industry best practice for architecting, structuring and testing code, including writing both unit and acceptance tests.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

• Writing software that meets the requirements of user stories and tickets
• Following industry best practice for code structure and code style
• Writing unit, integration and acceptance tests for the code they have written
• Taking part in agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning and sprint retrospectives
• Reviewing other engineers’ code (often with the help of a more senior engineer)
• Working closely with product owners (to help refine requirements) and quality assurance engineers

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Competency in one of Babylon’s chosen software languages (Java is preferred, Python)
• Knowledge of popular software frameworks for the relevant language (desirable)
• Understanding of software testing methodologies
• Understanding of relevant technologies, including databases and cloud deployment
• Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in written-form
• Understanding and interest of the business and product goals
• Ability to work as part of an effective team
• Curious and interested in software and technology
• Interested in the healthcare industry
• 4+ years experience of software development (commercial or demonstrable open source)
