Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeking individuals for our Software Engineer position is primarily in developing, troubleshooting, improving, and testing hardware device drivers in both the Windows and Linux operating systems to enable SEL hardware in those systems. The position also includes application development to provide diagnostic or integration software for the operating systems where necessary. If you want to get involved in the whole lifecycle, from specification to design to writing the code and testing, this position is for you!


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Participate in the design, implementation, and test of firmware/software systems.
2. Understand hardware and software interactions, and collaborate with Hardware Engineers.
3. Participate in the development of designs and test documentation.
4. Develop knowledge of SEL engineering processes.
5. Develop knowledge of SEL products and technology.
6. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
7. Understand. Create. Simplify.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


One of the following:
-- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent
Knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
-- Embedded systems firmware development including:
-- real-time firmware design
-- C and assembly languages
Operating system environment development including:
-- object oriented design
-- C, C++, Python
-- Other scripting languages
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications


BIOS/UEFI knowledge
Windows services and/or Linux daemons
Modern communications protocols
Digital and analog circuitry
Project management

Round Rock, TX - This position is located in Round Rock, TX. Round Rock is a city close to Austin, TX where you can enjoy outdoor activities and historical sites from the 19th century.
