Software Engineering Manager, UI Platform

You’re an experienced front-end (web applications) software engineering manager with a good understanding of single-page applications and REST APIs. You want your teams to build likeable, efficient and accessible user interfaces to set the bar for quality across the organization. You know that each team is itself a system, and the best way to optimize it is by working excellently with people while also understanding the technology. You know how to find, hire and retain top talent to build mission-critical SaaS UIs while coaching them to become better and embracing the uniqueness they bring to their team.
You will lead and support a team of front-end developers who own some common UI experiences in our enterprise products, and who empower other engineering teams at the company through common libraries, frameworks and design patterns. You will have many internal stakeholders across teams, and effectively collaborating with all of them to help them with those common UI capabilities will be important for this role. You should form opinions about what the team should do based on careful and active listening to your team members and your stakeholders. Then, your teams will deliver great UIs and make our teams’ and customers’ interactions with our product that much better.

What You’ll Make Happen:
Listen to what your team needs to deliver better UI software, then proactively do those things.
Partner with Product Management to ensure your teams have clear tactical and strategic backlogs.
Balance competing priorities to ensure we effectively ship new features while resolving defects and managing technical debt.
Introduce, run, tweak, and optimize team project management processes, as the principal owner of your team’s delivery.
Recruit, coach, develop, and motivate high performing front-end developers.
Proactively seek to listen and find alignment with other engineering teams and stakeholders by understanding your teams’ technology, building strong relationships, and insisting on high-quality solutions that solve multiple strategic challenges at once.

Role Requirements:
1+ years in a Software Engineering Management role on front-end web applications
3+ years of hands-on experience as a Software Engineer
Deep knowledge of and experience with agile processes and workflows
Technical experience and fluency in front-end architecture, enabling easy discussions with engineers
Experience handling multiple stakeholders’ concerns live, in meetings, with aplomb
Pluses (or Things You’ll Learn on the Job):
Experience tuning and optimizing team processes using qualitative & quantitative feedback
Experience implementing & maintaining a feedback-driven culture where it is routine to ask for feedback on performance
Experience on teams shipping SaaS products for consumers or businesses
