Hyliion is looking for a Senior Engineer – Diagnostics/OBD to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.  You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. Reports to Vehicle Integration Manager/Sr Manager

 

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Define diagnostic fault monitoring strategy and mitigation plan for electric vehicle powertrain and guide team to implementation.
  • Documentation for regulatory compliance with OBD II requirements as needed.
  • Collaborate with calibrators and other functional teams to implement a diagnostic deployment strategy from engineering to production use.
  • Complete vehicle level verification testing of diagnostic fault paths and reactions
  • Specify & implement robust remote diagnostics tailored to the target market.
  • Collaborate with other teams to analyze and develop diagnostic improvements. Define appropriate data/file formats.
  • Closely work with Systems, E/E & Controls Engineers on functional diagnostics. Work with Service & Software Engineers to develop and implement critical data.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills. Experience in diagnostic sequences such as ECU reprogramming and how the tester exchanges data with client ECUs
  • Create and present reports, with documentation of technical analysis, system trade-offs as well as business case for technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of Standalone and PC/Mobile-based diagnostics tools
  • Knowledge of relevant standards: ISO 14229 (UDS), ISO 15765 (DoCAN), ISO 13400 (DoIP), ISO 22901-1 (ODX) and Functional Safety (ISO 26262)
  • Experience with requirements management tracking and tools - DOORS, JAMA etc.
  • Diagnostic specification experience. Hands-on experience in using test equipment and validation tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer
  • Experience in automotive applications and applicable interfaces such as CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet
  • Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and hybrid
  • Experience in the automotive electronic systems, including software and hardware.
  • Ability to understand operations/manufacturing/service documentation.
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to communicate with customers positively and effectively (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Position will involve travel (up to 10% of time) visiting test locations etc.
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years in a cross-functional team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Electronics or Industrial Engineering

  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

 

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office
