Sr Engineer - Fuel Economy
Hyliion is looking for a Senior Engineer – Fuel Economy to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. Reports to Vehicle Integration Manager/Sr Manager
Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Responsible for all aspects of Fuel Economy improvements for hardware and software for class 8 electrification products.
- Run vehicle tests for fuel economy, benchmark and analyze the test data using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink. Work closely with the 1D Simulations team.
- Understand current NACFE/GHG/NHTSA/CAFE regulations that govern introductions of new technologies in US market. Be aware of developments at and guidelines from EPA/CARB/DOT/APTA/NACFE/FEG/FHA etc.
- Research current regulatory requirements including testing procedures and provide concise information to help other engineers understand technical requirements.
- Conduct in-depth research of advanced fuel economy technology trend in US market to identify technologies utilized/recommended for compliance strategy.
- Identify vehicle technologies that would result in fuel economy increase on certification cycles and customer usage/duty cycles for current & future production systems and vehicles.
- Develop new fuel economy technologies and strategies that enable short-term and long-term benefits for production vehicles. Integrate new technologies in appropriate vehicle applications and run appropriate testing for validation.
- Coordinate with internal development teams to track technologies being applied to vehicles or being considered for future adoption. Coordinate and track development and test plans.
- Create and present reports, with documentation of technical analysis, system trade-offs as well as business case for technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA
- Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink etc.
- Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and hybrid
- Experience in the automotive electronic systems, including software and hardware
- Good knowledge on HV Battery, A/C, Thermal and E/E systems
- Ability to understand operations/manufacturing/service documentation.
- Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
- Ability to communicate with customers positively and effectively (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
- Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
- Position will involve travel (up to 20% of time) visiting test locations etc
- Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of delivering technical products in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
