The Team Member Digital Experience team creates custom web and mobile applications that empower and delight Whole Foods Market's 90,000+ employees. Our experiences are rapidly expanding in adoption and complexity. We need an experienced full-stack engineer to help design and implement the employee tools of the future. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience building and optimizing secure cloud-native web applications that combine extensible back-ends with elegant front-ends. This candidate will work with a fun and supportive team who love to tackle challenging business and technical problems. This position will report directly to the Sr. Manager of Team Member Digital Experiences and will be located in Austin, TX.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, implement, and deliver high-quality, reliable, and scalable solutions that are strongly aligned with our business and technology strategy and goals
  • Write code that sets a great example to others and demonstrate best practices while providing insightful code reviews to your teammates
  • Consistently improve the technical practices and processes of the team in all areas of the development lifecycle
  • Work with peers and business partners to document business processes and technology requirements, analyze requirements, and prepare functional and technical specifications
  • Provide reasonable technical design proposals and estimates for future initiatives based on high-level business requirements
  • Mentor fellow Team Members in software and application development best practices and methods

Education & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience with hands-on development, design, and architecture of real-time web applications, preferably including most of the technologies and domains identified below.
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, including Fargate, EC2, S3, RDS, CloudFormation, and CDK
  • 2+ years working with sensitive and regulated data, especially PII, HIPAA, and GDPR
  • Proven deep understanding of system performance tradeoffs and engineering for high availability
  • Experience building APIs, containerized microservices with orchestration patterns, serverless functions, and contributing to modern event-driven architecture
  • Experience delivering software solutions using Agile methodologies
  • A Bachelors (BS) or Masters (MS) degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Key Technologies/Domains:

  • Object-oriented web programming languages and related frameworks, especially C# and .NET Core
  • JavaScript/TypeScript front-end frameworks, especially Vue.js
  • Relational databases, especially MS SQL Server
  • No SQL databases, especially AWS DynamoDB
  • Containerization tools, especially Docker
  • AWS services (Fargate, EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudFormation, ElasticCache, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Application Performance Management, especially Splunk
  • Enterprise and Web Content Management
  • Employee data management and employee experience
