Senior Engineers are expected to spend a majority of their time hands-on in the creation, feature development, and subsequent maintenance of Bright Health properties. The more senior their level, the more that individual will assist in the continuous improvement of the team's productivity and code quality. Additionally, senior talent plays a key role in building and maintaining a culture which focuses on making sure every engineer progresses in their career in line with personal goals/expectations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Writing clean, high-quality, high-performance, maintainable code
  • Collaborate directly with product managers, UX researchers, and designers to define and implement solutions for our digital properties.
  • Contribute to the design, development and implement systems, full-stack applications and/or websites related to the healthcare insurance industry.
  • Lead and contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's productivity, culture, and code quality.
  • Review team member's code to identify and remediate bugs quickly.
  • Create documentation and processes for teaching or lead learning sessions with other engineers as needed.
  • Support test and deployment of new products and features

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering and/or 5+ years equivalent professional work experience;
  • 5+ years of software development experience (portfolio preferred);
  • Experience building/deploying/maintaining scalable and always available consumer facing products;
  • Experience working within Agile methodologies (SCRUM)
  • Experience writing for the backend (e.g., C#, Node.JS, Redis, MySQL) and the frontend (e.g., React/React Native, JavaScript, CSS) of modern web applications;
  • Experience building applications in the cloud, bonus points for serverless architectures
  • Experience using both traditional Relational (e.g. MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. Redis);
  • Seasoned estimation skills (e.g., can reasonably judge the complexity of a feature and appropriately break it down – if needed – and size it);
  • Strong work ethic plus follow-through on commitments (works smart to get the job done right and on time);
  • Proactive approach to problem solving (acting without being told, driving for measurable results, etc.).
