In this role, you will be partnering with teams across the globe to build out a new GraphQL orchestration layer, services, and travel platform to support thousands of requests per second. We are looking for an adaptable, high performing, motivated, and self-reliant Software Engineer Manager with past experience leading rockstar engineering pods to deliver cutting edge web applications, APIs, and orchestration services in a cloud architecture. This orchestration layer will use hundreds of separate services and applications, via a highly adaptable web layer using the latest technologies allowing us to provide an extraordinary experience to our customers. Further, this role will allow you to collaborate with Vrbo’s strategic technical leaders and executing teams to ensure effective and operationally sound goals, clearly identifying what needs to be delivered to achieve those goals in parallel with the day to day needs of the business.

What you’ll do:

  • You will lead the Traveler Domain team

  • You will be building, leading, and mentoring a new team of highly energetic and adept engineers.

  • Deliver reliable, highly available, and highly scalable systems in a Lean, agile, and domain driven engineering environment.

  • You are going to partner closely with other tech leads and product managers to design and implement cutting-edge solutions.

  • You will help to accelerate software engineering practices by encouraging and facilitating inner-sourcing of key components within the architecture.

  • You are the ambassador for technology best practices, frameworks and assisting in educating and motivating our engineering community

  • Help teams break through challenges by managing upwards to be sure innovation and speed to market are not impeded

  • GraphQL, Node.js, Java, Kotlin, React, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Mongo DB, Spark, S3, AWS, Lambda, Docker, Dropwizard, Kafka, Scala, New Relic, Data Dog, Looker.

Who you are:

Leadership Qualifications:

  • You bring 5+ years of experience mentoring and developing teams and individual contributors.

  • You have experience working multi-functionally to deliver business results.

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and influence.

  • You possess an intellectual curiosity to seek out parallels across industries and instill implications within Expedia Group technology solutions.

  • You are excited to be a hands-on manager participating in engineering software solutions.


Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field

  • 8+ years in software development

  • Deep understanding of Web, API, and Cloud architectures

  • Conversant in common Internet technologies and protocols (HTTP, SSL, OAuth, REST, JSON, XML, GraphQL, etc)

  • Validated track-record of building fast, reliable, large, multi-threaded, scalable, service-oriented web services

  • Experience in profiling high traffic web applications and services.
