What You Get to Do

Spruce is looking for a Controller to join our Finance Department reporting to the CFO. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset and be comfortable with the fast-paced environment of a venture-backed startup. You will play a critical role in ensuring we continue building a world-class accounting function while partnering across the business to ensure our systems and processes are running smoothly as we scale rapidly. 

You Can Expect To

• Lead, support, and develop the accounting team while driving efficiency & automation to keep up with the demands of Spruce’s high-growth business
• Oversee the accounting process for accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory, and compliance
• Oversee and own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAP
• Deliver accurate and timely results reporting to management
• Lead relationships with external auditors, accounting/tax advisors, and internal controls
• Manage technical accounting questions and updates
• Provide support for the annual budgeting and planning process
• Work with FP&A team on monthly forecast against budget 

Requirements

• CPA; BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or similar preferred
• 4+ years of accounting and management experience in a fast-growing tech environment
• Demonstrate a strong fluency with U.S. GAAP
• Strong knowledge and understanding of ASC 606
• Established track record in executing financial accounting operations at a Series B or later-stage company
• Experience with Quickbooks Online
• Experience with consumer marketplaces or platforms preferred
• The ability to be hands on, organized and detail oriented
• Strong Excel skills and comfort with large data sets
• Strong leadership and influence skills to manage projects and initiatives across the organization
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Experience with BI Tools and MySQL preferred
