Role Description

The Operations Data Engineer will lead the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of our finance data warehouse and will help to support its integration with other enterprise data assets for analytics use cases. The Finance Operations Data Engineer will work closely with business leaders, functional leaders, organizational units, and subject matter experts to ensure the health of the finance reporting platform. The Operations Data Engineer will be responsible for executing the day-to-day configuration, production support, integration, maintenance, administration, and improvement of the finance data warehouse.  This includes technical management and administration of SQL environments and business intelligence tools and technologies.  This role is approximately 90% technical and 10% business.

The Position
We are looking for a unique individual who has finance business acumen combined with SQL, ETL, Tableau Desktop, PostgreSQL DBA, Snowflake, Terraform, AWS RDS, JSON, and CloudWatch technical expertise.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Manage and synthesize large amounts of data into useful information using pgAdmin, BI analytical tools, or external application tools and Tableau to  illustrate findings, analyze trends and report results
  • Review query performance, enhance and optimize code where necessary
  • Data modeling to visualize database structure
  • Create database triggers for automation
  • Create table indexes to improve database performance
  • Write views, stored procedures, and PL/pgSQL functions
  • Determine what data must be returned to the application and write queries for it
  • Perform database administration including table design and normalization, and database backups and recovery
  • Supports the monthly close and reporting process by assisting the team with the preparation of revenue journal entries and account analysis reporting
  • Develop Tableau and/or Looker reports
  • Monitor changes in upstream and downstream applications impacting the warehouse and apply changes to ETL logic where applicable

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 2 years PostgreSQL DBA experience
  • 8-10+ years of experience with hands-on roles in database administration, BI tools, finance, or related fields.
  • Experience working in the financial services industry or supporting an internal, corporate finance function
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in pgAdmin database engineering/optimization including strong expertise in SQL best practices, queries, and frameworks
  • Experience in BI tools, processes, and data optimization (Tableau and Looker preferred)
  • Basic financial acumen
  • Proven ability to design and implement new processes and facilitate user adoption
  • Strong understanding of the platform, with the ability to build custom apps and objects, formula fields, workflows, custom views, and other content of intermediate complexity
  • Strong understanding of database best practices and functionality
  • Strong data management abilities
  • A documented history of successfully driving projects to completion
  • A demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex requirements
  • Experience using PostgreSQL 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor

Desired Qualifications

    • Proficiency with Tableau, Looker
    • Proficiency with Python
    • Experience using a variety of database technologies such as Postgres and Snowflake
    • Experience with SOX controls and compliance
    • Experience developing financial reporting solutions
    • Working knowledge of financial systems
    • Experience in life science, healthcare industries, or diagnostics segment

Location: Preference is San Francisco but remote U.S. location ok
