Revenue Accountant with the overall responsibility for initial analysis and documentation of sales contracts in accordance with the Company’s policy and authoritative guidance. Individual will be part of a team effort to perform proper compliance and documentation of all new sale global transactions.
- Review customer contracts for new and add-on license and/or SaaS sales by completing deal analysis sheet:
- Document contract key data points
- Perform revenue recognition analysis in accordance with company policy and current authoritative guidance
- Outline of any manual adjustments to systematic revenue recognition
- Follow-up with Contracts, Sales, and Professional Service Teams on any open items related to deal completion
- Coordination with Revenue Seniors and or Manager on review and sign-off
- Order processing:
- Prepare sales order and conversion to proper invoice type
- Compare system revenue allocation to expected revenue allocation per deal analysis sheet, resolve or document reason for any material differences
- Submission of invoice to Finance Ops Team for customer delivery
- Deferral monitoring and communication:
- Maintain documentation of any manual deferral for month-end close and proper revenue recognition
- Periodic inquiry on any deferral status to responsible parties for update
- Monthly update of deferral status and any related action
- Monthly review and reconciliation of revenue deferral details to general ledger
- Update new bookings report for all deals reviewed, outlining each sale by element
- Vendor Specific Objective Evidence (VSOE) Monitoring. Assist with maintaining on-going detail and analysis database of transactions to support Company’s VSOE.
- Best Estimated Selling Price (BESP) Monitoring. Assist with maintaining on-going detail and analysis database of transactions to support Company’s BESP.
- Review stand-alone statement-of-work(s) and document revenue impact to related new sale and coordinate revenue adjustment as necessary
- Maintain tracking of training credits for accounting purposes and reconciliation with Training Team
- Understanding of ASC 605 Revenue Recognition and ASC 985 Software Revenue Recognition
- Assist with analysis, adoption, and implementation of ASC 606 Revenue from Contracts with Customers
- Key contact for Contracts, Sales, and Professional Services Teams for guidance on revenue related questions during contract negotiations
- Assist with processing of credit memo requests related to new sales and maintain supporting documentation/approvals
- Part of team to proactively work account collections and provide periodic updates for review
- Maintain and update internal control and process documentation for quote to cash
- Assist in the documentation and creation of internal policies and procedures
- Assist with technical accounting research and documentation
- Create detailed reporting as needed for management purposes
- Assist Finance Ops Team with any transactional questions and renewals analysis as requested
- Prepare supporting documentation for audit and tax requests as needed
- Perform other duties and projects related to role as assigned
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
- 3 or more years of relevant accounting experience in industry or public accounting
- Accounting experience in a software company especially as it relates to revenue (license, SaaS, support & maintenance, professional services)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially in the area of revenue recognition
- Excellent organization skills and detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple, competing tasks simultaneously
- Experience with an Accounting ERP system, experience with Intacct a plus
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships within and across departments
- Strong Excel skills and computer skills required
- Hands on, be part of a team that helps the company develop processes and procedures as we grow, willingness to get into the detail
- Experience/familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and documentation
- Strong analytical skills and leadership qualities
