The Amherst Single Family Residential Division is seeking a self-motivated, independent, intellectual accounting professional to join the Accounting and Finance team as Accounting Manager. In this highly visible and dynamic position, you will be responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting for our joint venture partners. The position is also responsible for ad-hoc analysis and reporting to our investment partners. The Accounting Manager reports to the Assistant Controller and works closely with the SVP of Accounting and CFO.
- Maintain current accounting knowledge; research and provide GAAP interpretation and draft technical accounting memorandums for complex transactions
- Prepare annual audited financial statements and work with external auditors to complete these audits on time
- Gather and analyze monthly results, providing interpretation and analysis to business stakeholders
- Review of financial statement trends and analytical response to irregularities
- Providing analysis and insight on partner impacts and requirements when new strategies and tactics are under evaluation
- Interact with the Company’s property accounting personnel
- Identify opportunities for financial reporting improvement and recommend alternatives where appropriate
- Assist with the design and implementation of the Accounting group’s process improvement initiatives
- Support the Company’s implementation of technology and systems initiatives
- Establish and enforce the Accounting group’s policies and procedures
- Provide ad hoc analysis, reporting and special projects as needed
Education, Work Experience & Skills and Abilities:
- BA or higher degree in finance or accounting
- CPA license or equivalent experience required
- 2 – 3 years in a management or supervisory role overseeing accounting personnel
- Minimum 2 years of Big 4 or Public Audit/Accounting experience required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong technical accounting background
- Proven track record for driving process efficiencies
- Superior analytical skills with the ability to manage large volumes of transactional data
- Strong attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency with Excel
- Adaptability in a highly dynamic working environment
- Strong initiative with excellent organization skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box
- Ability to interact effectively at all levels of an organization
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
