Responsible for preparing and completing tax returns and reports as well as for resolving issues and inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders involved with various tax filings and liabilities. Responsible for meeting all required deadlines. Maintains current knowledge of tax laws affecting the company. Reviews business initiatives, proposals and operations for tax implications and recommends actions to both facilitate business activity and manage tax liability. Keeps abreast of changes in federal, state and local tax legislation.

Whole Foods Market is hiring a Senior Indirect Tax Staff Analyst for its Global Tax Team. You will be a key player in the multi-state sales and use tax function of a twenty billion dollar company and have opportunities to expand your role and responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review approved capital expenditure and consumable expense (products and services) invoices to determine appropriate taxability, leveraging and improving upon existing technology
  • Making timely payments of tax due, associated journal entries, and completing the reconciliation of related tax accounts
  • Coordinate gathering and reviewing of all information associated with audits conducted by various governmental agencies
  • Classifying grocery and related items sold appropriately to ensure correct taxability
  • Participate in all aspects of evolving the sales and use tax function
  • Research moderate to complex sales and use tax matters
  • Coordination of monthly sales and use tax filings, including but not limited to gathering required reporting data, coordinating with external return preparers
  • Assist in the Team’s support of other company leaders as required

Job Requirements:

  • Accounting degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 2-4 years previous multi-state sales/use tax compliance experience 
  • Sales/use tax audit experience
  • Willingness to develop and expand existing knowledge base and/or responsibilities
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication including written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Ability to adapt and be fluid given the dynamic nature of the Company
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Willingness to moderately travel
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Workday, Coupa, CCH, and/or Vertex a plus
  • Prior retail with an emphasis on grocery experience a plus
