VP, CONSTRUCTION FINANCE–DEBT CAPITAL MARKETS

Within the Capital Management division, Debt Capital Markets manages the financing process on behalf of Amherst’s own $2 billion+ balance sheet and across its ventures and funds, including Amherst supported residential construction projects. The construction finance facilities serve to optimize Amherst’s capital committed to projects in various stages across its markets and supplement an established balance sheet that has access to secured warehouse financing, senior and mezzanine term financing, public and private securitizations, and seller financing. The team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to play a key role in the sourcing of construction debt financing from a variety of capital sources. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for acquisition, construction, and permanent financing of residential and small multi-family projects, including marketing transactions to capital providers, negotiating legal documentation, and directing the loan closing process;
  • Establish communication and strong relationships with capital providers, including banks, regional lenders, life insurance companies, strategic investor with key focus on construction lending and project finance
  • Prepare presentation and marketing materials, including request for proposals, lender diligence, model outputs, and structuring objectives for lenders
  • Own the deal screening, term sheet, loan closing process, with close guidance from the Head of Debt Capital Markets and project acquisition and sourcing teams
  • Evaluate risk and negotiate transactions, including pricing and structuring of financing and write Investment Committee Meeting memos and present loan terms for approval
  • Prepare funding models for various financing proposals
  • Coordinate closing and settlement of transaction across stakeholders within Amherst (legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory parties)
  • Collaborate with the team to generate new ideas and further initiatives 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA a strong plus
  • Minimum 6 years in sourcing and structuring construction lending finance or debt capital markets at a broker dealer or residential / commercial developer
  • A deep knowledge of the construction finance industry, the players in it, and the structural nuances that ensure a solid borrower experience
  • Uncompromising personal integrity
  • Tenacious in meeting deadlines; strong sense of urgency; outstanding ability to self-manage
  • Persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage through conflict and positively influence results
  • Comfort level working in demanding, and occasionally high- pressured environment
  • Proven ability to partner with deal teams and manage complex closing processes and shift gears with emerging data points and handle risk and uncertainty
  • Interpret and present analysis clearly and thoughtfully
  • Take initiative to work independently and as part of a team
  • Manage self and team’s time efficiently and effectively
  • Think independently, logically, and critically
  • Present solutions when confronting problem
