Vice President, Investor Financial Reporting

Reporting to the Head of Investor Financial Reporting, the Vice President, Investor Financial Reporting is responsible for managing a subset of the company’s joint venture and fund level accounting and financial reporting. This individual will work with the accounting team to ensure that the financial statements for multiple funds are reported timely and accurately. Daily responsibilities will include critical thinking, decision making, and technical accounting research for complex accounting issues.
Job Functions:
In partnership with the Investor Financial Reporting controller and assistant controllers, draft, review and publish periodic (e.g., monthly, quarterly, annual) required and supplemental financial reports and other business results
Gather and analyze monthly operating results, providing interpretation and analysis to internal and external customers
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external capital providers and customers
Maintain current accounting knowledge; research and provide GAAP interpretation and draft technical accounting memorandums for complex transactions
Coordinate periodic reporting to debt and equity capital providers, including lender debt covenant compliance reporting and certification for multiple credit instruments with a variety of lenders
Coordinate with corporate financial reporting to complete the annual financial statement audits of various entities
Coordinate with tax preparers to ensure compliance with required tax basis tracking, reporting and estimates for governmental filings and other external requirements
Maintain internal control that ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
Identify opportunities for financial reporting improvement and recommend alternatives where appropriate
Provide management and training of staff and subordinates
Prioritize the function’s projects and manage customer deliverables and timelines while maintaining integrity, quality, and accuracy
Provide ad hoc analysis, reporting and special projects as needed
Required Skills and Experience:
Excellent written and oral communications skills
12+ years of combined real estate industry and public accounting experience, including 5+ years in public accounting (Big 4 preferable); background including an institutional reporting environment preferable
Minimum 3 - 5 years in management role
GAAP financial statement preparation experienced required
Proficient in GAAP, and knowledgeable in fair value reporting, investment and real estate accounting rules
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to meet stringent deadlines
Detail oriented executioner that is highly process and documentation driven
Proven track record for driving process efficiencies
Self-starter that possesses the ability to work well with ambiguity and/or minimal direction
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and manage effectively
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
High level of integrity and dependability
Experience dealing with complex fund structures
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or other related discipline
CPA is required
Highly proficient in MS office applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
Knowledge of MS Office and Yardi Voyager preferred
Tech savvy with knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems preferred
