- July 2015 — Raised $2 million in venture capital led by Silverton Partners (3 employees)
- March 2016 — Launched pilot program in a handful of states (7 employees)
- July 2017 — Raised $5 million led by Silverton Partners (15 employees)
- November 2017 — Launched in all 50 states (18 employees)
- November 2018 — Raised $9 million led by Altos Ventures and Silverton Partners (29 employees)
- October 2019 — Self launches Self Visa Credit Card (47 employees)
A note from our CEO and founder
Our company has blossomed from a crazy idea into an awesome product that's helped over 450,000 people build credit, save $330 million in their Self accounts, and increase their credit scores by 15 million points. We're now 47 employees with 8-figure revenues and we're on a hockey stick trajectory.
However, I'm writing this note because I need your help. Today, the majority of our HR responsibilities are performed by our leadership team and managers. In other words, you will be our first HR hire — and you will have the opportunity to greatly impact our people, culture and company.

What you’ll do
- Recruit, retain and enhance our greatest asset: our people. You will partner with the leadership team to understand gaps and hiring needs, draft job descriptions, recruit, onboard, enhance and retain our employees
- Enhance our performance. You will own our employee performance management processes and develop, test and evaluate strategies to improve performance, enhance professional development, and train our future leaders
- Manage HR policies and programs. You will manage our employee health & wellness programs. Additionally, you will develop, test and evaluate strategies to improve our HR systems and workflows. You will partner with leadership and report to the CEO
- Help us help others. You will be responsible for organizational development, company wide initiatives and community outreach
Requirements
- 5+ years human resources experience in tech-driven organization
- Ability to lead in an environment of constant change
- Strong effective communicator in writing, presenting business cases and interpersonal communication
- Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality in interpersonal interaction
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based, measurable HR products, services, and activities
- Strong commitment to and interest in employee relations and communication
- Demonstrated ability to see the big picture and provide useful and strategic advice and input across the company and on the senior executive team
