After all, the selected individual will fully own Payroll & Benefits Administration for our growing, mid-size company (approaching 100 employees). The ideal candidate will need to leverage their in-depth experience, knowledge, passion and skills to be successful in this hands-on and visible role. This position will operate within a fast-paced and changing environment, so it’s crucial that adaptability, selflessness, customer service, and execution with integrity are all part of your professional DNA.  

This full-time position works within our Austin, TX headquarters located at 360 and 2222, which is 8 miles from downtown and beautifully situated on the edge of Central Texas Hill Country. 

(Position may be filled at Specialist, Sr Specialist, or Manager level based on qualifications)  

As our sole Payroll & Benefits professional, you will: 

  • Independently manage and process accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll cycles company-wide for Exempt and Non-Exempt employees. 
  • Partner with Sales and Finance on monthly/quarterly commission payout program 
  • Provide accounting support by entering all payroll expenses via journal entry into NetSuite accounting system and performing month end payroll bank account reconciliations 
  • Ensure compliance, setup, and maintenance of multi-state payroll and individual state tax accounts, including all steps involved with new hires, terminations, pay changes, etc  
  • Administer the company 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan account to include vendor relationships, all compliance requirements (ERISA, IRS, etc), distribution process, annual audits, data retention, reporting, employee notifications/training, new hire enrollment setup, account changes/inquiries, and Profit-Sharing process 
  • Manage and maintain the Time Off Accrual System, while introducing more efficient and automated systems to manage and improve the process for managers and staff 
  • Employ stellar customer service, listening, prioritization, and follow-up skills while serving as point of contact (POC) for related inquiries 
  • Demonstrate high level of teamwork while partnering closely with People Ops/HR Team, Senior Leadership, and others, on periodic special projects, time-sensitive reports, and ad hoc initiatives upon request 
  • Serve as backup POC for Employment Verifications and other outside agency requests 
  • Partner with People Ops/HR Team to operate/monitor our HR Helpdesk email account to provide timely responses to all related employee inquiries  
  • Assist with annual tax audits by providing payroll data, as well as reporting and preparing payroll account/GL reconciliations for tax auditors as requested  
  • Maintain unwavering commitment to confidentiality, privacy, and information security 
  • Continually seek efficiencies, improvements, and creative solutions to strengthen support capabilities, enhance the customer experience, and positively impact our business 
  • Work closely with, and report directly to, the Director of Human Resources 

What we're looking for in a highly competitive candidate: 

  • Positive, approachable, and detail-oriented leader with an entrepreneurial spirit   
  • At least 3-4 years of directly-related working experience, including independently owning the full spectrum of Payroll & Benefits functions listed above 
  • An unstoppable desire to provide phenomenal service to each and every customer 
  • Highly-developed communication and problem-solving skills while supporting local and remote employees 
  • Hands-on experience administering a company-wide 401(k) plan with fiduciary responsibilities 
  • Hands-on expertise with, and can quickly become proficient in, various   HRIS/Payroll/Accounting platforms (currently use Zenefits, BenefitMall, and NetSuite) 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with a deep working knowledge of Excel  
  • Intricate working knowledge of Wage & Hour laws (FLSA, State Laws, etc) 
  • Experience in supportive Accounting functions, or have Accounting background 
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Human Resources, Accounting/Finance, or closely related field 
  • BONUS: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or similar achievements that demonstrate deep commitment to the craft 
  • BONUS: Recent experience with introducing, implementing, and evaluating new Payroll, Benefits, HRIS/HCM, or Accounting programs/systems/technology
