About your Role

We are seeking a Payroll Manager to administer and manage payroll for our rapidly growing organization. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a strong acumen in multi-state payroll.  This role will work closely with the Accounting and Finance teams as well as the People Operations team.  In addition to administering payroll, this role will also own equity administration.  A key attribute of this role is displaying exceptional customer service to all colleagues and Company departments.  This role will own the payroll and equity functions, process semi-monthly payroll, and is responsible for reconciliation of compensation accounts.   This is a sole contributor role reporting to the Sr. Accounting Manager.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the payroll function, including management of the payroll system (ADP workforce now), company-wide payroll processing (Domestic and International), payroll record keeping, reporting and garnishment processing and payroll distribution in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Develops and manages the preparation of reports summarizing payroll, deductions, withholding, reconciliation of payroll data and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Participates in month-end and year-end close. Ensures the reconciliation and analysis of related balance sheet accounts, general ledgers, and journals.
  • Work closely with People Operations team to ensure that employee changes are processed correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for proper authorization and adherence to company policy including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Comply with local, state and federal payroll regulations and respond to questions and special requests from regulatory agencies.
  • Research laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures
  • Evaluate and implement procedures to improve department efficiency. 
  • Responsible for managing the worker's compensation audit.
  • Support successful execution of annual audit activity (corporate financial statements and 401K)
  • Own equity grant administration by managing all grant processing and records maintenance within Shareworks. Prepare and distribute grant documentation and related agreements to employees. Manage monthly cap table reporting. Support the accounting team with all equity based accounting activities. 
  • Process and reimburse employee expense reports ensuring proper general ledger and department coding.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred
  • Proficient with ADP Workforce Now payroll system
  • Solid understanding of federal, state wage, and hour laws including payroll, taxes, withholding, deductions, and garnishments
  • Thorough understanding of payroll processing, procedures, and payroll tax reports
  • Knowledge of tax regulations
  • Prior general accounting experience a plus
  • Able to work under pressure, strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines
  • Skilled in MS Excel and MS Word and Google docs
