What is the Invitern Program?

The Invitern Program offers opportunities for students, recent grads, or those who are early in their career to develop industry skills through Invitae’s internship roles.

With each opportunity, we aim to create an experience for our interns (Inviterns!) that is enhanced by mentorship, networking opportunities, and impactful work. Throughout the duration of this program, we hope to offer a sense of community with our Inviterns and build lasting relationships. Our hope is that Inviterns become future Invitaens!

The 2022 Summer Invitern Program is a paid internship and will start June 6th, 2022 and commence August 12, 2022.

Internships provide an opportunity to learn and practice a range of scientific and professional skills in an industry setting. Interns in Oncology Assay Development work on meaningful projects alongside regular team members. This is an opportunity for interns to develop skills essential to next generation sequencing (NGS) assay development, allowing them to become familiar with a range of scientific techniques; generate, analyze, and interpret data, and communicate results to stakeholders; and practice working independently under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and conducting wet lab experiments
  • Data handling and statistical analysis to draw conclusions
  • Interpreting scientific results and providing conclusions and recommendations
  • Formally communicating findings to diverse audiences
  • Maintaining experimental records according to Good Documentation Practices and company SOPs
  • Identifying areas for process improvement and suggesting improvements
  • Review, understanding, and compliance with Invitae HIPAA Security policies and procedures
  • Safeguarding the privacy and security of protected health information and European Union personal data
  • Processing and handling of European Union personal data only as directed by Invitae for purposes of personalized molecular pathology

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience working in a research wet lab and/or coursework with a laboratory component (required)
  • Proficient with basic molecular genetics wet-lab techniques, particularly PCR and qPCR (preferred)
  • Familiar with a scripting language such as Python, Bash, or R for analysis (preferred)
  • Familiar with cancer genetics (preferred)
  • Senior undergraduate student or graduate student in a life sciences program.
