Our Data Science team is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to drive the application of data science within the company so we can deliver more savings opportunities to consumers and more value for our retail partners.

In this role you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, software engineers, data engineers, business analysts, product managers, and other internal customers to find the best opportunities to apply data science in RetailMeNot's business. You will then lead your team through development, iterative experimentation, and productization of winning solutions. We can provide you access to large-scale master and analytics data sets; in return you will see the application and impact of your work to millions of users.

Who You Are

  • You have an MS/PhD in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or related quantitative field or equivalent self-study
  • You have a strong analytical background
  • You have 4+ years experience working in collaboration with software engineering teams to productize your work and 2+ years in a data science leadership role
  • You bring specific experience in multiple machine learning and data inference techniques, such as Regression models, Recommender Systems, SVMs, Matrix Factorization, Markov Decision Processes, and Clustering Techniques
  • You are familiar with key elements of the PyData ecosystem such as numpy, pandas, scikit-learn and spacy as well as the basics of the Hadoop ecosystem including HDFS, Hive, MapReduce, and Spark
  • You've developed a deep background in one of the following: information retrieval / search ranking, natural language processing, recommender systems / collaborative filtering, or ontology management / data normalization
  • You understand classical statistics/probability and time series analysis
  • You have experience querying relational databases (SQL) and independently working with and exploring data
  • You have the ability to apply a pragmatic approach to problem solving, establishing conceptual connections to data sources, understanding relationships among data, and comfort with uncertainties/approximations
  • You have great communication and teamwork skills

What You'll Do

  • Use analytics and machine learning to design and develop recommendation engines and other data products which drive user engagement, retention, and monetization
  • Design and implement scalable algorithms and models, as well as repeatable workflows
  • Develop and code software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets to gain actionable insights
  • Provide technical expertise in statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, NLP, and information retrieval
  • Communicate effectively to different audiences, both technical and non-technical, through good storytelling and data visualization
  • Mentor junior engineers/scientists on data science techniques, process, and new technologies
  • Keep abreast of new technologies. Technologies we use today include: Python, Spark, Redshift, Databricks, and Elasticsearch
