Challenges you can work on:

• Build component based web UI architectures with modern JavaScript libraries
• Polish, tweak or create aspects of massive ecommerce engines that process billions of dollars per year
• Plug into, or create, services that can scale to more than 60k requests per second
• Utilize realtime data to understand customers’ needs before they do
• Help dockerize our apps and services for cloud deployment
• Develop features that will drive our business through real-time feedback loops
• Develop a smart service layer that will allow for in-session personalization based off user behavior and data
• Scale our public API to allow other partners to leverage HomeAway services & experiences on third party sites
• Simplify core booking and listing workflow to enhance our travelers & suppliers experience

Full-stack technologies we use:
Java8, React.js, Backbone.js, AWS, Docker, Mesos, Dropwizard, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Kafka, Hadoop, Samza, NoSQL
 
Requirements:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• 4+ years of back-end Java
• 2+ years of solid vanilla Javascript and familiarity with modern frameworks
• Drive to assume more challenging leadership roles in the future
• Excellent communication skills with ability to work well cross-functionally across multiple department
• An analytical problem solver that is passionate about delivering a high quality user experience
• Responsive design experience is a big plus
• Cross-browser development & compatibility experience

Responsibilities:

• Own new features from design to production release
• Play a pivotal (or lead) role in architectural decision-making
• Work with QA, product management, and operations in an Agile environment
• Participate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions
• Participate in our innersource culture (Internal Open Source) by delivering high quality code that levels up not only your team but the entire organization
• Conduct peer code reviews and act as a resource for your team
• Showcase your work on our tech blog and internal & external conferences
