Corporate Counsel
Favor is looking for its first Corporate Counsel to build out the legal team. This person will advise the company on a broad range of matters, including commercial transactions, regulatory, and corporate matters, employment classification, consumer protection, data privacy and intellectual property. You’ll also contribute to building a legal department from the ground up, and setting the culture for the team. You’ll need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally, excited about technology, and ready to roll your sleeves up and dig into tough legal problems to reach a creative solution. You will enjoy independence and ownership, while operating within a highly collaborative team environment. Success in this position will require applying a complex and evolving legal and policy framework to services. This person will report to the CFO & COO but interact with all departments.
What You'll Do
- Review, negotiate and draft a wide variety of agreements, from contracts with major national restaurant chains, to complex and high-value business development agreements, non-disclosure agreements, to leases and and employment agreements
- Stay on top of changing regulations, laws and industry standards and effectively work with a variety of business stakeholders to develop and implement practices and standards that support innovation and growth
- Manage a diverse range of litigation, pre-litigation and regulatory matters
- Draft terms of use, privacy policies, independent contractor agreements, disclosures, and implement related processes
- Manage our contracts database and create and update our form legal agreements
- Monitor and respond to unemployment insurance claims and handle related requests for information from state and federal government agencies
- Think ahead, see around corners, and help prepare for legal issues that may arise in the future
- Advise and assist with corporate M&A, benefits, insurance and other legal matters (as required)
- Manage outside counsel on related matters (as required)
Qualifications
- JD from top law school, admitted to Texas state bar
- 5-7 years of in a law firm and/or in-house legal department
- Experience with a startup or technology
- Highly skilled with negotiating and drafting a wide variety of contracts with minimal supervision
- Knowledgeable of legal issues relating to the on-demand space and independent contractors a plus
