Director of Ecommerce Technology

Position Description:

Wondercide is looking for a player-coach to lead technology, providing strategic and operational direction in support of its ecommerce, accounting, business intelligence and marketing platforms, including some hands-on development. This position reports to the CEO and is ideal for the type of leader who loves strengthening platforms, problem solving and developing a team. This role provides the opportunity to be instrumental in the major scaling of this fast-paced company.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s business strategy to ensure alignment with goals. Communicate technology strategy to executive leadership.

  • Lead eCommerce tech initiatives cross-functionally to achieve business results and ensure security and systems integrity with quality and timeliness.  

  • Ensure product roadmap alignment across the business, from front end e-commerce management to back end product, fulfillment and reporting operations.

  • Take on some coding work as part of team sprints to develop needed technology

  • Provide reporting and transparency to CEO and stakeholders regarding execution, progress, outcome predictions, hurdles, and resource needs.

  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality, stability, manageability, and efficiency.

  • Discover and implement new technologies and/or methodologies that yield competitive advantage.

  • Monitor KPI’s and IT budgets to assess technological performance.

  • Own defining expected outcomes, project requirements and resource needs with stakeholders.

  • Balance competing priorities and multiple projects in a timely manner to effectively manage expectations

  • Collaborate with project and product managers to fully understand goals and impacts, as well as establish and promote Agile principles and best practices.

  • Utilize Agile framework to address development backlog and new initiatives in sprints with team, in alignment with roadmap and to support AOP

  • Ensure business processes and documentation for projects are aligned with business requirements

  • Utilize management software for capturing of request and bugs, tracking status and documenting actions taken

  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues and independently conduct root cause analysis

  • Provide support for talent acquisition, mentoring, development and retention

  • Effectively manage 3rd-party service providers and consultants

  • Work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours, if necessary, to address critical bugs and/or meet important goals and objectives

  • Oversee company IT resources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science

  • 8+ years eCommerce experience

  • 3+ years experience with Magento development and administration, including 3rd-party APIs and modules

  • Forwarding-thinking and knowledgeable on key eCommerce drivers

  • Extensive experience with team management and agile methodology

  • Expertise with concepts related to business system development, including project management, change control, Incident Management, and IT General Controls Audit

  • Results-driven strategic-thinker and problem-solver

  • Self-motivated and highly collaborative

  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills

  • Competent knowledge of e-commerce data organization and relationships

  • Competent in JavaScript and using libraries such as jQuery

  • Proficiency with PHP5 and MySQL from an OOP perspective

  • Proficiency with database schema design

  • Proficiency with LAMP Server administration

  • Working knowledge of GIT

  • Competent in web services integrations (REST/SOAP)
