HomeAway is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated individual to join our team as a public relations specialist. This person will work in a fast-paced environment and will be responsible for supporting consumer PR initiatives. This position brings high energy and relevant experience to the team, and has great learning potential for an exceptional person looking to further their career in the public relations field.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsibilities:
    • Support consumer PR projects, working closely with managers, to ensure all tasks are completed effectively and on time
    • Project manage programs and campaigns, working closely with others on the PR team and on closely connected teams that contribute to the marketing mix
    • Draft a variety of written materials including news releases and media pitches, as well as toolkits for global teams to take and tailor accordingly for their regions
    • Build and grow relationships with media and generate opportunities to get HomeAway in the headlines
    • Work closely with the in-house media analyst to develop data needed for media opportunities
    • Conduct research and other related activities to identify business and travel trends for daily, weekly, and monthly media pitches
    • Create and update global PR tools, templates, Q&As and messaging; maintain repository of key information and approved templates/documents
    • Manage blog.homeaway.com’s editorial calendar and creation of content
    • Work closely with PR interns and help manage their daily tasks
    • Build, grow and maintain updated media lists for a variety of PR initiatives
    • Maintain team calendar and provide support to the overall communications team for event planning, travel and special meetings

Who you are:

  • Qualifications:
    • 1-3 years of previous public relations experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in PR, communications, marketing, advertising or relevant social science major
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills; proficient in AP style
    • Excellent organization and follow-through; Extreme attention to detail
    • High level of initiative, strong interpersonal skills, positive work attitude, inquisitive personality
    • Super deadline oriented; strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
    • Experience collaborating with other teams and key partners to accomplish stated goals
    • Idea generator who is creative and nimble yet a strategic thinker
    • Proven track record securing earned media coverage across all a variety of verticals
    • Travel, lifestyle, dotcom, technology PR experience a plus
    • High awareness of social media communication practices and tools
    • Must be open to occasionally working additional hours and travel up to 10%
    • Highly collaborative team contributor
    • Knowledge of communications management/media monitoring platforms (Cision, Meltwater) is a plus
    • Graphic design and video editing, and knowledge of basic tools such as Illustrator, Photo Shop, InDesign, Canva, iMovie and/or Final Cut
