This role oversees, leads and partners to set the strategic direction for 3 important capabilities of the Merchandising Presentation team at Whole Foods. The Floor Planning team is responsible for Grocery & Whole Body space utilization, adjacency and flow balancing productivity, customer experience and operational efficiencies of store teams. The Capabilities team has overarching responsible for Merchandising Presentation Planogram and Floor Plan technology, training and process enhancements. The Canada POG team is responsible for POG production to support our Canadian stores. Through all of these responsibilities, this leader partners with stakeholders such as Store Design, Enterprise Analytics, Merchants, Retail Ops and IT.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction for Merchandising Presentation activities and initiatives company-wide
  • Direct and manage floor plan maintenance and creation to meet business needs of regularly scheduled merchandise sets, new stores, remodels and special projects
  • Identify and develop technology enhancement needs of 3rd party floor plan software to meet business needs
  • Engages with merchandising leaders to ensure downstream business needs derived from planograms and floor plans are being met
  • Direct and manage floor plan and planogram accountabilities such as internal team training, internal process enhancements and standard operating procedures
  • Align with peer Merch Pres team leaders on balancing resource allocation to meet business needs
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
  • Interviews, selects, trains, develops, and counsels Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains high performance and minimizes turnover
  • Drives partnership with cross-functional teams such as merchandising, merchandising operations and IT to ensure necessary tools, processes, procedures, reporting and analysis are developed to enable customer-focused, timely and accurate planograms and floor plans
  • In cross functional conversations, serve as the subject matter expert on floor plan and planogram capabilities and processes, participate in the discussion of business requirements, act as a leader of change management and assist the Merchandising teams’ training and development
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve processes and increase team efficiencies, leveraging the skills and expertise of internal department resources and cross-functional partner teams
  • Manage and achieve budget and return on investment goals set for projects, when appropriate
  • Close projects by gathering feedback, documenting lessons learned/best practices, and applying those best practices to subsequent projects
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and community-based work environment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • BA/BS degree and 6-8years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 2-4 years leadership experience
  • Ensures alignment between Merchandising Presentation and the organization’s overall vision, values, mission, and business strategies
  • Ensures team services adapt and change as the business evolves
  • Supports individual development and replacement planning efforts within the function
  • Consults with the business leaders on functional and operational processes, challenges, and related issues and trends –and on the project plans designed to improve facility functionality and use
  • Serves as a trusted advisor from a Merchandising Presentation perspective
  • Identifies the risks and threats in current and emerging operational strategies and outcomes
  • Understands how risks and threats may impact operational effectiveness, resources, and costs
  • Leads detailed task / project planning, including cost / budget, schedule, and resource requirements
  • Ensures planning incorporates data and information from the perspective of the customer, supplier, partner, and company
  • Collaborates with the task / project stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve emerging and anticipated issues
  • Leverages data-driven insights to recommend, implement and continuously improve task / project management and delivery methodology
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of WFM’s core business and customer / market / partner interfaces
  • Assesses how the products, processes, and operating models impact the company’s business and financial performance
  • Understands how changes in the customers’ expectations, the competition, new business, new markets, and evolving strategies impact the company’s competitive position and long-term prospects
  • Ability to physically perform general office requirements
  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Overnight travel approximately 15% of time
