HomeAway is seeking an experienced Public Relations Manager to primarily lead business, trade and tech media PR programs that will position HomeAway as an industry leader and partner of choice for vacation homeowners. This person in this role should have exceptional project management skills, the ability to collaborate with various teams, a hands-on approach, a consistent record to produce impactful daily results, and a true knowledge of how newsrooms work. This position is based in Austin, and reports to the Head of Public Relation for the US. 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop PR strategy and execute on it for media coverage around corporate announcements, industry leadership, trade/travel awards, and workplace accolades, with an emphasis on those that highlight HomeAway as an industry leader, a great place to work, and a top-tier tech company.
  • Oversee business, trade and tech media relations, with a goal of exponentially growing YoY coverage that positions HomeAway as an industry leader.
  • Seek stories to tell about HomeAway’s key differentiators, especially in diversity and inclusion, and share the company’s mission, products and achievements. 
  • Identify compelling vacation rental homeowner stories and turn them into personal finance, real estate or human interest news coverage to grow brand awareness and differentiate HomeAway from its vacation rental/home-sharing competition.
  • Conduct media and message refinement trainings and provide regular coaching and counseling to executives and homeowners prior to interviews.
  • Manage media and craft company responses for issues management cases.
  • Work with Expedia Corporate Communications team to ensure collaboration.

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of PR experience; journalism background and/or hospitality and travel services industry PR experience a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree - Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or English a plus.
  • Consistent record securing media coverage across a variety of top-tier consumer, travel, business, tech and industry trade media-national and regional, broadcast, print and online.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience telling stories for a global tech and/or travel company a plus.
  • Strong background in crisis communications and issues management.
  • Advanced spokesperson experience, on camera preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal mentorship in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience collaborating with other teams to accomplish stated goals.
  • Tenacious, inquisitive nature, creative and nimble, diplomatic and a strategic thinker.
  • Driver of PR strategies to ensure consistency in messaging across multiple markets.
  • Master of gathering information on a wide variety of topics from multiple sources to swiftly an accurately craft concise and clear messaging.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and complex issues with discretion.
  • Fast learner who can quickly get up to speed on the vacation rental category.
  • Experience identifying and using data to drive/support storytelling with demonstrated results.
  • Brings an “A” list of current, relevant media contacts to tap for HomeAway coverage.
  • Availability to work long hours as necessary and travel up to 20% of the time.
