Role: Production Underwriter – Commercial Lines

Location:  Austin, TX or Remote

Reports To: Director of Commercial Lines

About This Role

We’re seeking an experienced commercial multi-line habitational insurance underwriting professional who is willing to think outside the box with a whole new approach to policy underwriting. This position requires a cross-functional skill set encompassing risk-based decisioning, sales and account positioning along with account management responsibilities for our highly valued customers. As a member of our new commercial lines division, you will work within prescribed guidelines, embark on developing new underwriting methodologies, and develop and manage exceptional working relationships with our customers to maximize profitable growth and expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with Hippo’s commercial lines customers and the broader Hippo organization
  • Perform front-to-end underwriting tasks including but not limited to new business solicitation, rating and underwriting, midterm policy changes, referral exceptions, and contract interpretation questions
  • You have an excellent sense of priority and respond quickly to customer needs
  • You are diplomatic and balance meeting the expectations and requirements of our customers through sound underwriting decisioning, you act with customers in mind while protecting long term profitability
  • Process daily diaries and ad hoc policy level reviews quickly and thoroughly while maintaining proper service levels
  • You are solutions-orientated and demonstrate accountability through ownership of action

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ current experience in Property and Liability underwriting is required
  • Technical expertise in commercial habitational risk exposures
  • Experience working in multiple programs and applications to accomplish tasks, including some manually driven processes
  • Solid organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to balance multiple priorities in an execution-focused environment
  • You embrace technology and data-based decision-making
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and directed; ability to collaborate is a must
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to think outside the box
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Occasional travel required (post Covid-19)
  • Prior experience in sales and a P&C license is a plus
