Director of Operations

Hyliion is hiring a Director of Operations to join our fast-paced team. This role manages multiple teams and includes cross functional communication with our engineering department for resource allocation, prioritization, and efficiency improvement. This team member will need to be well-organized and will meet assembly and installation deadlines. This position reports to Vice President of Operations.

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity
  • Work with Finance and Operations team in the development of financial and budgetary plans
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles for our key initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals
  • Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks
  • Devise strategies to ensure growth of programs enterprise-wide, identifying and implementing process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs
  • Responsible for customer service, reliability and dependability by providing all fields with the technical assistance that they require from engineering
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  • Represent Operations team at cross-functional meetings, providing updated Operational inputs
  • Responsible for the implementation of 5S and other lean standards standard within the shop area
  • Support, promote, and enforce safety processes and procedures within Operations
  • Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed
  • Work closely with human resources to lead team with integrity and establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment
  • Manage Operations Install, Assembly, Driver Supervisors and the Materials Manager
  • Provide on-the-job training as well as coaching and mentoring, including conducting 1:1 weekly/bi-weekly meetings with direct reports
  • Conduct quarterly performance appraisal of all direct subordinate
  • Signs and approves employee timesheets
  • Conduct any other task given to them by their HOD
  • Travel is required up to 25% of the time including weekends

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities with an ability to motivate others
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Hands on ‘real-world’ mechanical experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Highly computer literate (Microsoft Office, Enterprise Resource Management, etc).
  • Excellent grasp of the English language: verbal and written.
  • Sound judgment informed by extensive practical knowledge and experience.
  • Innovative, inventive, and analytical, able to pre-empt and resolve problems with ease.
  • Agile, responsive, and good under pressure.
  • Able to handle conflict and resolve differences of opinion.
  • Heightened cultural awareness – able to relate and build relationships with all.
  • Background in 5S and Lean manufacturing
  • Basic tool knowledge
  • Read & understand wiring schematic and blueprints

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a supervisory/managerial role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Heavy commercial truck experience
  • Vehicle shop floor understanding
  • Basic vehicle knowledge

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

 

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office
  • Shop temps can range from 50F – 100F
  • PPE required in many areas of work
