Duo Security, now part of Cisco, is the leading multi-factor authentication (MFA) and secure access provider.

Duo + Cisco = Disco

With the Most Loved Company in Security and the global leader in network technology joining forces, there are more exciting opportunities than ever to be at the forefront of securing the cloud.

Our mission is simple: democratize security by making it easy and effective for everyone. We’re transforming security from the ground up by solving the world’s most pressing geopolitical challenge — safe, secure information access. We engineer our business to enable our customers to easily address their ever-evolving security challenges.

We believe that impactful work is rewarding work and that our team is at its best when everyone feels empowered to bring their whole self to work. We learn together by hiring for cultural contribution, not a cultural fit, and recognize that diversity in background and thought is essential to building high-impact teams.

We invest in growth and learning opportunities and encourage our people to never stop learning. We foster collaboration and believe in being recognized (and rewarded!) for hard work. We champion a healthy work-life balance. We’re kinder than necessary.

Together we build for the future by designing simple solutions for complex problems. And that’s why we’re the most loved and trusted name in security.

As an Architect, you love coming to work knowing that you’re adding value through spreading standard methodologies across teams. At some point, you decided you wanted to maximize your impact by sharing your knowledge with others. There are still one or two days a week that you find yourself digging into some exciting technical challenges, but for the most part, the heavy coding days are in your past. Instead, you spend your time leading strategic technical decisions and encouraging teams to tackle the hard problems which may otherwise be left to linger.

With your experience, you have come to understand that the best way to guide is to let people experiment while providing bumpers, so they don’t go too crazy. It’s okay to jump in and give direct feedback and guidance, but more often than not, it’s better to let the team operate and do your influencing beforehand through 1:1s or team conversations; or during meetings by asking questions that can spur discussion among the engineers who will be implementing a given solution. You lead by influence, not through authority.

You’re thrilled to work on established systems running on millions of devices and to help teams identify different areas we can improve the codebase. Additionally, you enjoy determining how we can make sure we’re maximizing each team’s strengths rather than reinventing the wheel, and maximizing the impact of teams on taking our software to the next level.

Sometimes you find your time is best spent putting together outstanding training guides, technical talks, or workshops to help increase the skills of the organization. At other times you know that you need to be in meetings with teams significantly removed from the products you work with day-to-day so that you can learn what else people are working on, and how we can either aid them in their objectives or maximize their work in ours.

What you’ll do...

  • You will work with other senior engineers and architects to define and spread best practices
  • You will create a technical vision of what the product could look like in 12 - 24 months, and how to tie that back to measurable goals
  • Answer technical inquiries, then verify & resolve technical problems
  • Contribute to customer-facing and internal documentation used for self-support
  • Provide technical training and documentation to help improve the team operations and systems
  • Improve our application stability and scalability
  • Write code to improve our development lifecycle
  • Act as a liaison between various development teams to maximize our ability to improve our applications

Skills you have...

  • Experience working on critical escalations
  • Experience maintaining large applications
  • Experience handling scaling to support large volumes of requests per second
  • Fundamental or methodical problem solver
  • History of improving old codebases or migrating to new technologies
  • Consistent track record of maintaining software with 99.999% uptime
  • Understanding of principle web technologies [DNS, HTTP(s), etc.]
  • Cross-platform OS knowledge [Linux, Mac OS X, Windows]
  • Follow through. Takes the initiative to own issues until resolution
  • Unbridled appetite for constant learning
  • Documents & shares knowledge to improve team performance
  • Advanced scripting skills [BASH, Python, Powershell, etc.]
  • Experience with cloud computing [GCP, AWS, Azure]
  • Welcomes and adapt to change in a swiftly paced workplace
  • Back-end web development experience/troubleshooting

Even better if you have...

  • Bachelor’s Degree [Computer Science, Information Systems or related]
  • Network security or information assurance background
  • Experience supporting a high-availability SaaS environment
  • Familiar with enterprise-level technologies [Cisco, Citrix, Juniper, VMware, etc.]
  • Certifications are cool, too! Reasons why you should apply...
  • You care about contributing to amazing work culture and environment
  • You prefer trying and failing rather than getting it flawless the first time
  • When you’ve listened to customers or engineers, voice a problem you’ve made it a priority to figure out how to fix it without being asked to.
  • You understand that communicating is about the person listening, not the person talking, and respect that everyone has different communication styles
  • You love solving difficult problems

This job may not be for you if...

  • Working for a company in hyper-growth, where change is a constant, isn’t something you are ready to embrace
  • If you prefer to work on your own (we are a team that pushes each other and learns together)
